First off, I want to say what a great job BMG did with Husaberg in the US. My short time as a dealer was excellent thanks to everyone there.

Second, I thought you all might like the tone Jon-Erik Burleson sets in this interview with Powersports Business in the Sept 3 edition ,page 5, inset.

A New Option for the Hard-Core Racer

Providence RI - During its recent dealer show, KTM showed off Husaberg motorcycles, which KTM North America began distributing Sept 1.

KTM North American President Jon-Erik Burleson described Husaberg as "niche of a niche".

"Husaberg gives us a great opportunity to keep the (hard-core off-road) guy who wants to be unique," Burleson said. "When you're a major brand in off-road, you can't be unique. (Husaberg) allows us to keep that customer in the family."

Harold Plockington, KTM Powersports AG's director of development, purchasing and production, said KTM plans on renovating the entire Husaberg lineup, not to mention relaunching the brand in the future.

Husaberg, originally a Swedish manufacturer, was purchased by KTM in 1997.

KTM North America will form a separate division to handle the distribution of Husaberg. The new division, Husaberg North America, will consist of dedicated sales, parts, accessories and technical departments.

"We can do really radical things with that model," Burleson said.

"Radical"?? I smell something good cookin'!

Hell yes! It's been proven that Husaberg riders will pay extra for a motorcycle that due to being on the bleeding edge of technology periodically blows up in a spectacular fashion and then happily spend hours doing R&D in their own garages attempting to find ways to repair it and even improve upon the original design! If KTM is smart, they will be using the Husaberg brand to test out every new bit of technology they can come up with and I'll be standing in line with my checkbook...
