Snotty 550 Supermoto in Lancashire, UK

Hello,

Just thought I'd register on here as I've bought a complete bin of a 2002 model 550 supermoto from a mate to repair (the things you agree to when drunk). Not sure if its an FE or an FC as its only just been dropped off and not spent any time looking at it.

Its not got much going for it at the mo -

I believe the Stator is knackered as its a pig to start - kick only no elec boot (I've not had a go personally but will be doing this weekend)

Clutch needs bleeding, no kill switch, need to wire the aftermarket lights in.

BUT it was cheap, and I regretted selling my last immaculate 2003 - 501 so a deal was done in the pub after 10 pints.

No doubt I'll be asking people quite a lot questions as I try to remember how to fix certain things that I've forgot about.

Mike

Thanks for the link Carl,

I'd best get myself down to Maplin for a multimeter then before I start kicking! From what my mate has told me though, I'm pretty sure the stator is fubbared, he did a fair bit of fiddling/fault finding and he's pretty good with bikes.

But.... the wiring isn't too clever all over the bike if I'm honest (wires just twisted together in places like the lights and with some insulation tape sort of thrown at the exposed wires) so I am going to re solder and heat wrap any dodgy connections to rule out any short circuits etc.

I did want a bit of a project to tinker with in the garage while my kids are playing out on the street but it just pains me that my last Berg was so minty mint and this is dog city.

I think I'll be off to the dealers with a shopping list very soon, luckily Dave Clarke racing is only 10 mins from my house. I'm in two minds with what to do with this bike because its so old and battered but if I get it running I'll most likely bring it back to its former glory.

Sounds like you got your project, got to be careful what you wish for ;)
Very handy having DCR just up the road though, I get most of my bits from Dave despite being a few hundred miles south.

To be fair, I'm just glad to have a bike in the garage again. Its been 4 years since I sold my last when the kids were little nippers and its a bit of an unspoken boundary with the mrs.

Bank holiday weekend coming up so Ill be getting busy
