Snapped Gear Selector

Hi All,
I recently snapped my gear selector in a low side slide. Luckily Taffmeisters managed to get hold of 1 for me for £70 with a note, "It's not who you knew, it's what you know." I still chuckle when I read it.
Well now I've found the time to replace the part and so I've done so and taken photos at various stages. When I drained the oil I found tiny speckles of metal shavings, which worried me. Luckily I found the cause, it was the auto decompression by the kick start. What would cause that?

That almost looks like normal wear to me. I almost doubt that that is the source of the shavings. They should have been picking up by the magnet over time I would think.
What do the magnets,screen and oil filter look like?
I am thinking it might be reminants from your shifter problem. If the magnets etc.. check good, I dont think I would worry much about it.

Just my opinion and I'm sure others will point out that I am completely wrong :wink:

Thanks for the input.
I'm going to strip the entire engine down and have a good look and while I'm doing that I might as well do the Taffmeisters upgrade. Balancer bearings, Cam, Cam springs, starter motor ect.... That way I will know it's all good but this is my first time on a strip down so I will need to do more research and save. £568 in parts not including the gear shift. Not cheep so 1 bit at a time.

Is there a service, repair manual out there like Haynes? I cant find a thing. :cry:

For the auto deco kick start thing, I had the same wear on mine, did not like it, so i just removed it completely.

Any dealer should be able to order the repair manual. The last one I bought was not very expensive at all.

Any dealer should be able to order the repair manual. The last one I bought was not very expensive at all.

I have the downloaded version from Husaberg but the Pictures are bad quality. I was trying to find one with decent Pics.
