several of you have had the crank snap right at the end and didn't know it can be repaired well this is the job I had done to a customers crank recently! He has an '04 semi-circular/semi-pork chop crank that snapped across the base of the thread for the crank nut. so this is what was done. cost is £200 nicker and not a word to the tax man!

this is the hole bored into the end of the crank and then threaded

this is the hollowed out crank nut/bolt oil feed thingie!

the bolt just started into the crank

we find several cranks need the journals building up and this crank was no different! the main bearing fell onto the crank quite literally and after a thou of material was added the bearing was a tap-on fit again - that is a £90 touch for one journal.

see, I'm not just a pretty face after all!

taffy, haven't they got a .5mm hole in the crank nipple on the 450/550?

If I recall, with the change in crank from 360 flywheel to half 'n half they went open ended.

they add material by spraying it on Eric. we are doing it to 1 in 3 cranks and I don't care if the bill gets bigger - its getting done!"

what? the snapped crank or the undersize journal?

the undersize journal reflects iMHO on the mechanic or the result of a seized crank etc as the bearing spins. usually the left side, well always the left actually!

as for the snapped crank? I haven't noted a year but I would say around '04.
