I would like to get my fork to slide/run(?) more smoothly. Every WP ups fork i´ve tried dosn´t works smoothly, but etc the WP Ekstreme does! Why is that, and is there anything to do about it?

what year bike are you talking about? i know the 04 forks on ktm's have a 3rd bushing that is a real stiction causer. not sure if 03 has it. the 05's were fixed.

There is a SXS-kit which will improve the performance.
Some of the WP-bushings don't work very well.

It´s a 2005 501. It has adjustable spring preload, and i think it´s the same as on the KTM SX?

what a bunch you lot are!

above this thread it says have you checked the doc.

you're all a bunch of mushrooms! and bless you all i love ya!

i've checked it, problem is i can't understand any of it. maybe we could get a translation into a civilized language?

Yes it´s a FORCE!
I don´t understand all in the doc, english isn´t my language

===== Simple things you can do for better performance =====
Some ideas that should always work:

1. Polish up the cartridge rod, springs and the inside of the cartridge.

2. Machine polish the lower leg for better finish-careful!

3. Purchase Race-Tech Gold Valves or similar (see below left). The 'Nost SS' basevalve (see below right) is like a re-valve with just the turn of a screwdriver. There is a bottom valve that you adjust 4-ways externally high speed, mid speed, low speed and supplenes (Viking).

4. Update internals (see above) especially machining the rebound taps.

5. Terry Hay's top out springs said to help the racer (70mm long).

6. Drill a 2 x 5mm holes (direction: across the bike) 18cm up the inner leg to halt air bilging.

7. Drill 2 x 2mm holes in the bottoming cones. One down 20mm the other down 40mm and around 180d apart.

8. Try fitting some oilly sponge under the dust seals.

9. Get the suspension right and THEN fit 'sub tanks'.

Hi Taffy

I am trying to get a better picture on above statment #6 and #7, drilling the hole part and locations. No rush, when you get a chance draw a picture or more detail description of the exact holes location on fork.
Thanks.
Steve

Drill 2 x 5mm holes Parallel to axle line, 170 mm down from fork leg top.

Deburr internally with 1/8" shank ball end stone in dremel tool.

Thank Terry for this mod- makes a huge difference coupled with 3rd bush reversal/removal if your fork has them

My 04 300 EXC is a world better for it.

Picture of hole location- borrowed from "the Doc"

it made my forks plusher (as i've reported). i did it as well as two other small jobs. i had the taps machined and the cartridge rod polished.

all i know is that it did it in a back-to-back test.

maddel will put a photo of the bottoming cone drilling mod in the doc in the next day or so so keep an eye out.

regards

Taffy
