Last weekend I raced my buddy out in the desert, and in fifth gear my '06 550 obviously pulled ahead of his 450 yamaha, but when I hit sixth the smoke screen started and she started cutting out. This little race was about five minutes after twice attempting to climb the biggest desert hill I have ever tried, so needless to say she was a little warm. After cooling down a bit she fired back up, smoked a little, then cleared up and ran fine for the rest of that day and all day Sunday in Yerington. What happened, did a valve stick or something, I recently put in new motorex oil?

90% sure it was excessive oil that found its way through the ventilation and into the carb and then burned up.
The climb of the biggest hill actually make me wanna change the 90% to 95%

RE: Re: smoke, and lots of it.

either what jocke says or a lack of oil on the linar caused the bike to rip out the nikasil. you'll see next time you ride.

do an oil change and check the gauze filter meticulously.

The first thing you should do is: remove seat and air filter. Check for oil in the rubber boot connecting the frame to the carb. If there is oil there I'm 100% sure that you can keep on riding like nothing has happened.
If you want to you can clean the boot of course

If your overfull on oil the 650 will definately pull oil through the breather at WOT. again the hill climb did'nt help either.
I'm betting your fine.
