SM Wheels/Tyres... How Many PSI, Sir?

Hello Peeps

FINALLY got myself a shiny set of Excel/Talon wheels sorted for the 'Berg... very tidy they seem too!

One question... what sort of pressures do I put in for regular road riding, front and rear (they have tubes)?

Cheers

Taken from the sidewalls...

Front: Continental 120 70 17 M/C

Rear: Continental 160 60 17 SuperMoto

Just noticed that the rear tyre is fitted to the wheel with the direction of rotation opposite to what it suggests on the tyre sidewall. Is this normal in the SM world... or an error by the tyre fitter?

Thanks

it is a error by the tyre fitter because husabergs have the sprocket on the right side.
almost every other bike has it on the left.

28/30 id say for road riding, drop to 25 for trackdays etc. Id put money on the tyre fitter having made a **** up 8)

+1. This is a fair starting point imho. I am a few psi lower on Michilin Pilot Powers 120/70 and 150/60 but I only weigh 77kg.

Use tyre temp as a guide to pressures. If the tyre feels cool/body temp to the palm of your hand after a good street ride or track session REDUCE the pressures a couple of psi, if the tyre feels hot INCREASE the pressures a couple of psi. Toasty warm is good. Tearing of the tyre surface or blistering is usually too low pressures, low grip and sliding easy is usually too high pressures. Little balls of rubber and a fine rippled surface is good.
Remember the above is just a general guide, I've never used the particular tyres you have.

Thanks Guys...

Top info - I'll start with pressures at 28-30 psi and see how things go.

I have to say that the 160 width rear's a bit of a tight squeeze, perhaps downsize to a 150 when it comes time to replace.

Yes, I get it now... the tyre fitter's assumed a conventional set-up and not allowed for the 'Berg's arrangement, meaning that the tyre's currently spinning in the wrong direction... DOH! Will get that sorted right away.

Had my first ride on the bike yesterday... sunny UK day, dry roads and... what a RIOT - these things are crazy... I've never smiled so much before riding a bike in my life! I've always wondered what the attraction was... NOW I GET IT, 100%!!!

just a little tip for you to make fitting rear wheel easier, cut approx 1 1/4" out of the bottom of the caliper carrier. Makes it much easier to slot on after the wheel is in place :D

Thanks Weapon... I was REALLY struggling slotting the 160 section tyre into the swingarm space, mainly due to the caliper mount/slider.

Really appreciate the tip... will get that sorted next!

Cheers

You might want to go to a 150 next time anyway; the widest tire is not always the best tire for any given setup.

Not saying that the 150 will be better than the 160, just saying that wider is not always better. I'll leave the whys and wherefores to the suspension and tire experts - they can explain it better than I can.

26psi front and rear track or supermoto, road 28-30 psi, all tyres are directional except for the new mitchellin front 16half inch wet and slick, you can put them on anyway round.
