hi my names luke.
so ive got a 2001 400Fe with a 501 engine, (unsure of the year of engine)
its not too bad to start on the kick start .. so my problem is with the E start, someone removed the manual decomp lever cable before i owned it) i have re fitted one and set it to what i think is ok, i had the engine at TDC and then i have 2mm of play in the decomp on the head, i have a good battery which is brand new when i try to start the bike it wont crank enough to start the bike, it may turn half a rotation then it will stop. even if i hold the decomp lever fully in (it will kick with ease) but really struggles to spin the engine at a decent rate, ... would you say the starter if fubar .. if so is there any rebuild kits ? also can anyone tell me what battery i should have?
thanks guys

Do a search on installing the 2004-2008 autodecompression device and spring.

The starter itself is usually not the problem.

Battery should be a Yuasa YTZ7S.

it'll be your battery

I can't advise on the standard decomp spring, I've a modified spring for just 6gbp and yes the std decomp lump to fit.

don't use the manual decomp to help the motor spin. it won't get the engine started. it's a bit like turning a kingfisher into a chicken. lots of squawking but no take off!

the starter is fine on the 400.

your battery has had it and even when you get that sorted you just move on to the next problem.

there are about 8 things you need to do to get them starting on the button. give me a call if you want the picture and I'll help as best i can.

regards
