This is hard to admit but might save someone from a long walk
I know you should not ride along but I do sometimes
Today I had a 12 mile walk out of the desert to my truck. I could drive to within 2 miles of the bike . It took as long to 4 wheel to the bike as it did to walk out, rough terrain but the weather was great
2010 FE 570 just installed Akrapovic slip on muffler so I though I should go for a ride
Bike stopped, 12 miles from truck, would not start
Had spark, fuel pump would run for its computer controlled two seconds with no run/start but I could tell from the sound it was not building pressure
Removed air cleaner opened throttle cranked engine NO fuel spray from injector. I knew injector was electrically working I could feel it clicking when cranking
quick tip/ easy way to remove spark plug/ loosen plug push about a foot of 8mm or 5/16 fuel hose on to plug, hose will run between radiator and frame and screw plug out works great
Got the bike home pulled the tank off check fuel lines in tank, not connected
Had my fuel pump out a few weeks ago to install sock filter and a 2010 FX tank (I can see the fuel just one of the reasons I wanted the FX tank)
When connecting the In tank fuel lines together I did not get the lines locked together you have to make sure the four locks are clipped over the line flange I might of had one of the four locks clipped on, not sure.
The bike has gone over three hundred miles since I had the pump out but finally fuel pressure pushed the fuel feed lines apart, and the bike quit (imagine that, guess it needs fuel pressure to run !!)
totally my fault not the bike. The bike has been great
Hope this helps
have a great ride

Ouch! That's a lesson learned the HARD WAY! 8O At least you had decent weather... And hey, if that's the worst problem you ever have with your bike, you're doing pretty good!

Well, glad it was a nice weather for a long walk. In riding boots that's a long ways! Thanks for sharing an important fact when messing with the in tank fuel lines, could very well save someone else a much worse fate than yours.

Hi Dale
When riding along I always take a light weight walking shoes
This time I got to use them!

Good point and well taken as I do ride alone sometimes in the Sierra's during the Summer.

Not to hi jack your thread too badly here............. I scared myself one time when I was out riding by myself in the desert and ended up about 20 miles east of where I thought I was, low on fuel, and low on light. I looked around for personal ELT's and found this one. http://www.findmespot.com/en/

It has several options, a need help function, a help I've fallen and can't get up function, and also has the ability for you to be tracked by your nervous wife, friends, and relatives on the computer.

I'm pretty sure one of these little jewels is in my future. Especially once we get the tanks done I will be able to make some longer "adventure" rides. Not waiting around for some one to go riding with anymore, too much to do and too little time LOL!
