signal relay

I am finishing up my enduro lighting system on my 2007 fe 550, and my turn signals work great; however when I turn on the front headlight (hi or low) the turn signal stays solid (both L or R)...any ideas?

thanks

I think you have a short circuit somewhere in the lighting harness.
And if my memory serves me right the problem is the little high beam light to left of the dash board.
That connection is made of rubber with two metal blades inside that connects to the bulb.
If these two metal blades come in contact with each other (which is easy peasy) then you've got your short circuit.

Disconnect the battery.
Pull out the rubber connection and disconnect the tiny bulb. (put the bulb in a safe place or you might loose it!)
Inspect the inside of the rubber connection and most likely you will find that the two metal blades has come in contact with each other.
Make sure they don't have contact, then put it all back together and try it. Don't forget to plug in the battery again.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I am with you thinking that there must be a short.

I forgot to mention that I have a harness that I got from procycle.us, however, I don't think that negates that there must be a short in my connections to the front light.

Also, the headlight works on its own (flickers on intial start up but it is HID) and doesn't interupt the tail light or any other light, just the turn signals.

Cheers

Ah, I forgot that there is a US spec wiring harness.

Which part/parts from Procycle.us do you have?
Do you have a wiring diagram for it?

Maybe a short circuit in the handlebar switch?

You have exactly the same symptoms that I had when that enoying little light bulb connector short circuited.
That little bulb is only lit when using the head light high beam. (only found in the Europe/Australian wiring harness)

Hey, turns out I don't have enough juice. I was running a X2 HID 70W light that was robbing all the power. I switched back to the stock headlight and presto, no problems.

Does anyone know how many watts the stock 2007 FE 550 generates?

Ah good you found what caused it.

According to the owners manual the generator delivers 150 watts.

If the bike is putting out 150W than I would have enought juice to power two of those lights...maybe the X2 headlight was defective, because as soon as I changed that everything went back to normal.

I'm not sure that the generator really generates 150 watts...

How many watts does the tail light and the X2 head light use?
Turn signals is 5 watts each. Tail light is also 5 watts?

regards

The X2 is a 70W HID light. The signals are LED and my tail and head light are stock. I think my battery is also dead so I am sure that has something to do with it as well.

Brand new battery and stock head light...still got issues, hmmmm.

Turn signals all work when front head light is not on. As soon as I turn it on the signals stop flashing and stay solid. This is when the bike is running and not.

Testing the battery terminals while running is 14.5v.

Any more ideas?

Could it possibly be that I am not running enough power out of the stock stator?

Cheers and thanks

I think there is a split system; both ac and dc systems. I am running my harness off the battery, and I think with the juice from the dc system is not enough. I am going to switch it over to the ac system and see if I have more luck there.

If there is 150w coming from the bike, is that split evenly between the ac and dc system?

Also, if I power my lighting harness off of the headlight will there be enough power for everything to run? I think there is a yellow and white wire- do you know which one is the power feed?

Thanks
