Shorai Battery

I just thought I would let you all know my new experience with a Shorai battery. Awesome! 210 CCA'a and 14 AH and 1.68 lbs. The starter motor feels supercharged. My motor never spun so fast and they suposedly will last 5 to 10 times longer than lead acid. $150 from Slavens Racing but there are several other places that charge about the same. One of the best upgrades I have done.

I put a Ballistic Evo 2 on mine and you are correct on all points. This thing is 275 CCA's and about a pound and a half and it spins the motor like never before. Looked at the Shorai but the Ballistic was cheaper so I bought that one. I would have picked either one depending on which one was cheaper at the time.

I have tested the Shorai two days with -15C in the morning. No problems at all, while I expected that the Li-ion needed to awake a little with 3 to 4 attempts.

Not the case, first attempt: run. FE390 from 2010.

I'm happy with my choice, the bike is now lighter in the rear than the original.

I'm think of the ballistic, but it doesn't come with any kind of padding to make the box fit right?

The Shorai comes with a nice assortment of foam pads to help fit tight. The Ballistic come packed in 1 large piece of foam that can be cut to whatever size(s) that are needed. FYI, on the 2009 and newer bikes it is a direct replacement from a size standpoint but the terminals are reversed.

Does that create any problems?

Well, define "problems".

I chose the Ballistic because it was cheaper at the time and offered the maximum cold cranking amps I could get. The battery fit like a glove but did require more work to install than I anticipated. Had to move the ground wire to a different bolt which required dropping the sub-frame a little. I suppose what made it difficult was the learning curve but it all fit back in very well. If you don't care about the additional CCA's on the Ballistic and they are priced reasonably close, get the Shorai and save yourself the hassle.

Indeed, look at how your current terminals are applied. The Shorai was a no-brainer with respect to the wires.

Please note that Shorai has two different types of batteries in the exact same size. I bought the 'upgraded' version with 30% more CCA. Of course it was even 20% more expensive.

But because I'm lacking a kick start I found it worthwile the investment.

I ended up ordering the shorai, didn't want to mess with having to move ground bolt. Should be here tomorrow!

Don't forget to take some pictures to show the size difference and the fit without the padding! I forgot with mine. Congratulations!

i just ordered a Ballistic today. I liked it because it is a little more compact so more room to store stuff in the battery compartment.

I'll just solder on some extra wire if need be.

I just put in the big shorai battery - Love it. Cranks this puppy over real nice like. Even starts in gear now!!!

can anyone post the correct part number for a 2010 FE450 please

Shorai's website makes it very easy.

LFX14L2-BS12 is what i got. I imagine yours is the same.

Did you get the 4 cell or the 8 cell? I put the 8-cell in mine and there absolutely no additional room. :?:

8 cell damn...i was hoping for a little room to keep a couple spare tidbits....oh well.

WHOA! The 14ah Shorai LFX14 is light! I mean really light!!

Felt like empty battery case to me, and when I put it on scale it was around 680 grams only. 8O
My starter motor spins now like it's on crack. :D
