first off i've no personal evidence of this and wont ever ride fast enough to do so, but was talking at an event on sunday and was told that at top class competition level the shock was being found to overheat, believed to be due to its close proxmiety to the exhaust.

this came 3rd hand from a reliable source, who whilst not riding bergs does love the new '09.

I havent had a close look at an '09 to see how the shock sits in relation to the exhaust

reason for bring this up is that whilst most of us wont experience it there are a couple here that might and thought it maybe of use if theyre trying to figure out whats up.

The spring actually rubs against the pipe.
Packing out the silencer connecting bolts with 2mm washers stops it rubbing, but only by a gnats ****.
The heat at that point must transfer into the metal spring but by how much and whether its bad for the spring or other parts of the shock i wouldnt know.
You would think if it was a possible issue that the design guys would have shaped the pipe there for more clearance.

for 99.9 % of us it's not likely to be as in all honesty were not working the shock up too a level where its going to suffer.
