Shell Rimula X Oil - Is it good?

Hey Crew,

I know oil questions are everywhere on the inter-webs, but this a specific one ;)

For my FS 570 I'm thinking to use Shell Rimula X Engine Oil 15W-40 next oil change, (later today)

I've never used any Diesel oil before in my bike, (I always do like the book says) but from everything I've read (and it's a pretty contentious subject!) it sounds like Diesel oil is the stuff we should be using to protect our hi-comp, thumpers with a wet clutch, etc.

Does anyone have any advice if Rimula is Suitable/Good/Bad/Complete Fail? I think it's the AU/NZ equivalent of Rotella T, which seems to be the most popular option in the USA.

I will buy a small can to start with, but buying in bulk is pretty attractive! Not sure if R3 or R4 makes a difference, but liking the price of the R4!

Thanks for any advice!

Cheers,
Rich

The only alternative oil that I have heard good things about is Chevron Delo 400 not LE or any other, straight DELO 400. I will use it on my next oil change.

Thanks bushmaster!!!!

I believe DELO 400 was reformulated a few years back and does not have the JASO MA rating anymore.

I've been using the white jug Rotella T 15-40 (non synthetic) for a long time with no problems.

I have 440 hours on my 05' FS650.

Thanks Guys. I'll do some more reading.

@Idle, sorry to ask what may be a dumb question, but what's the reason/advantage you choose mineral vs synth? (cost? fewer additives?)

Cheers!

My 550 has a rekluse clutch, they recommend the standard Rotella.

So I used it in the 650 as well. It shifts well, it's wet and slippery and has the JASO MA rating.

It gets changed after every ride, (5-8 hours) and a new filter every third or fourth change.

Bushmechanic did a test and said the synthetic is better for the first few hours then falls behind the Delo in protection after that.

If I am going to race I will use the full syn.

I am lazy and will switch to Delo or Rotella. for it's better price, and longer protection life.

Currently I am running Lucas.
