Setting timing with SEM Stator

I have a 1997 FE 400 Elduro. Sparks just did a fine job of rewinding the stator, and I want to be sure that the timing is correct.

The manual says only to release the three stator screws slightly, turn the stator to 33 degrees BTDC, and retighten the screws.

Fine, but how do I know when the unit is set to 33 degrees? Does anyone know how to set these things?

I'd much appreciate any advice! Thanks!

with the stator screws tight enough to hold it but loose enough to turn it put on your flywheel without the nut and using a pin that will fit thru the small hole in the bottom, engage the groove seen in the pic. move the flywheel (which will then turn the stator) until the timing mark on the flywheel is lined up with the mark on the case (about 11 oclock). pull off the flywheel without rotating it and tighten down the stator screws.

Ned, thanks SO much for the reply. I have no idea why the Husaberg manual didn't specify those steps, but I'm glad you knew and were willing to help!

Gratefully,

When Sparks re wound my stator the resin was actually in the area where the groove used to be!
So I measured and marked a line on the new stator using a spare stator as a template to get the line in the right place. Then I used a sharpened pin to stick thru the hole in the flywheel (after lining it up with the timing mark). This left a small indentation on the resin. Took me a couple of goes taking the flywheel off, checking the marks, moving the stator, putting flywheel back on etc to get it right in the end.
Fired up first kick and never looked back

Thanks much for the tip!

I haven't gotten around to adjusting the timing using Ned's advice, but there is a lot of new resin on the stator, so I'll try your method if the groove isn't there.
