Setting sag / spring recommendation

On a 2010 FE450 - I had my rear shock and front forks lowered 1.5 inches. I'm vertically challenged witrh a 30 inch inseam and in very tight technical terrain the stock bike was way too tall! The rear shock was re-valved when the lowering was done, but they asked me to try using the stock spring. Its too stiff. I weigh 170 with gear and can't get the pre-load right between static and rider sag. To get the static right I would crank the spring but that then is too much for rider sag. Any suggestions for a spring rate and straight or progressive given the specs I mentioned?

Next, can someone tell me the stock rear suspension measurement when on a stand, wheel off the floor, measured straight up from the middle of the axle to the fender? I want to check that it was lowered 1.5 inches and not more than that, and I didn't measure this before I sent the shock out.

Thanks!
