Setting sag ,secret way

Hi all I'm on a 2010 fx450 that I've picked up and just serviced the shock.Im now just setting it all up I've put in a lowering kit in the shock but is there a way to set the sag without removing, the shock to adjust,I've had a reasonable look and can't seem to find a easy access so any ideas?

Super easy to get shock out, 1 minute max.
Bike on stand so you have 50 mm under rear wheel, undo 13mm shock mount bolts, flip shock flap out of way beside tyre, pull out shock. Done.
One turn on shock preload ring makes about 3mm sag. DO NOT overtighten preload ring bolt, it only needs to be nipped. Make sure shock preload threads are clean, should be if shock was apart, spray some teflon lube on them to make adjustment easier.
Remember to drop forks though to maintain geometry.
Start with about 5mm preload on spring- should be 250mm free length (check) so set at 246mm.

no need to even remove the shock. just put it on a paddock stand with the rear wheel free of contact with the ground. undo the pinch screw and turn the spring with your hand.

My manual says preload should be 9mm
Any reason you go with less?
 
the sweet spot for a spring is 0 - 6mm after that you need another spring.

I used to race these and if the sag is too little they 'jack up' leaving corners. not a problem for trail riding though. When they jack up while in a berm, they ride off the top of the berm and outwards. The way I conrolled it was to have an eccentric eye in the swing arm bearing with the eye for the bolt at the bottom towards the back wheel. Lowering the back of the bike.

is it possible to get to the pinch screw with the shock installed ?
 
depends where it is. if it was tightened on the bike then yes, if it was tightened on the bench then there is no telling!
