Separate headlight switch needed?

I just bought a 2010 FE570 that did not come with a headlight, so I purchased one. Plugged it into the headlight socket, started my bike and NO LIGHTS.

Do I need to now buy a handlebar switch to get my new headlight to work?
Or, is there a way to hotwire the harness so that the light stays on permanently once the bike is running?

Is the headlight plug the one on the left, two wires?

The headlight should be a four wire molex style plug. Brown/blue/green/white
Brown-ground
White-running light
Green-low beam
Blue-high beam
 
The headlight plug is the four wire as mentioned but you also need to buy the switch for the six wire plug. Or you can hard wire it by putting a jumper wire to connect the low or high beam to the switched power on the six pin plug.

With a multi meter set to resistance, connect one lead of the meter to the brown wire on the head light plug and test each pin on the six plug until the meter indicates zero resistance. That is the ground plug.

Now switch the multimeter to DC voltage start the bike put the black wire from the multi metre into the ground and test each other pin until you find 12 to 13 V. That pin is switched power. Shut the bike off.

With a multi meter set to resistance, connect one lead of the meter to the green wire on the head light plug and test each pin on the six plug until the meter indicates zero resistance. That is Low beam wire. Jumper the low beam pin to 12v pin. Connect the head light and start the bike. The light should work.
 
Ok thanks. Does anyone have a cheap lead on where to buy the headlight connector/lead and/or switch?
Or can that connector be purchased at Radio Shack?

When you say, "Jumper the low beam pin to 12v pin." Do you mean the 12V as the white wired running light? Or the high beam wire?

You can connect it to any of the headlight wires you want to power. I will take a picture of mine when I get home. I used the green low beam wire for my LED.

I do not know what that is for. I bought a headlight wire from the local ktm dealer and it plunges into the four wire plug. See the picture. I then installed the jumper on the six pin. Most guys here just run a switched power and ground from the battery. For $100 I may buy the handlebar switch.

Ok that helps out quite a bit. I didn't realize there is a plug blocking up the 4 wire headlight plug that I need to remove first. Would it work if I just wired my headlight into the 4 plug connector so that it would be permanently on once the bike starts running?

Is your headlight an OEM KTM headlight, because mine is not. I imagine I might need to purchase the 4 pin connector so I can connect it to the OEM harness.

Ok so I have my headlight plugged into the 4 pin connector but I don't have the switch to plug into the 6 pin connector. I don't need to switch the light off and on really.

So... How do I wire the 6 pin so I can have my headlight on all of the time?
