Sem stator differences lights vs no lights

I was trying to search for this but do not have a lot of time and figured someone could answer me faster then i could find it :lol:

the way i gather it all SEM stators are the same from 89-99 and 99-03 or something like this with the exception of the lighting coil...the question i have is for the ones that do or dont have a lighting coil, are they still the same shape/size?

for example: can one run a 1997 fe stator with a lighting coil in a 1994 fc that came without a lighting coil? or is there a difference in width that would prevent this?

at the same time could one run a non light coil in a bike that came with lights like if you were going to convert it to a "no lights" bike?

I think the answer is "yes". The 01-03 I don't think there is any difference in the stators between models (the FC and FX bikes had lighting coils regardless). I think the difference in the pre 2001 bikes was more of the flywheel. I think the FC bikes had a smaller flywheel.

So the answer is no you mean then? unless you have the matching flywheels for the eralier bikes?

I know the 01-03 bikes all have lighting coils regardless of configuration, they also have the same flywheels. The older bikes I am not sure of the lighting coils. I do know that the FC models on some of the older bikes have a smaller flywheel. Whether or not the smaller flywheel goes with a stator that has no lighting coil is what I can not answer for sure..

two groupings
89-96 have the flywheel over the stator
others can tell you about this model.

98 to 2003 have the stator in the sidecover (that then goes in the flywheel)
the FC flywheel is narrow but an FE stator will fit so that there is ignition but no charging. the FC stator which is made for the FC flywheel needs a 4mm lifter in the cover first. then of course you get ignition only.

I could be wrong as usual, but I think the changeover was the 99 models, so the above should be 89-98 and 99-2003. My 98 certainly has the flywheel over the stator and the cover is only that.

right on steve.....99 was where the switch came in i think too just wondering about lights vs. not lights...are they still the same or are the non light stators shorter on the earlier models ?

I mean do they both have two rows? same width?etc?

Just though Kris, Sparks, Taffy or another one of the pro's would know the answer easily......

......there all probably busy kicking all there freinds ***' whilst racing triked out berg mutant ninja bikes so they cannot answer right now........maybe later....

yes I got the wrong side of 1997! the last year of the stator underneath is 1998 and 1999 is the first year of the stator in the cover!

I don't have any books for 1998 (does anyone have any?) owner's, workshop or parts?

my apologies!

I had never sat on a dirt bike when these changes happened!

Hi all

The 98 was the last year of the MKI, the 99 was the first year of the MKII.

Taffy if you want 98 docs I can send it to you.

About the MKI I can't tell, never had one, but on the MKII there are stators without lights coils wich had only the coils from the ignition side. And there are also half flywheels to go with those stators, ofcourse you could use the FE flywheel with the FC stator, just one half of the magnets aren't making there anything, except weight.

Also to use the FC stator you need one spacer to go with it, basicly is one spacer to fill the space of the lights coils that there aren't there.

About the original question of Bergini, if the MKI FC stator works the same way as the MKII, you could use it making one spacer to go with it, even using the FE flywheel. I would bet, even without seeing one, that you will be ok with it.
