SEM Coil Replacement?

I'm new to this forum although I've had a '97 (roughly Pleistocene era) FE 400 Elduro for getting on a year and a half.

The poor girl has just lost her spark, and it looks like the CDI/Coil.

Does anyone know if there's a cheaper replacement than the $167 OEM unit?

$167 sounds like a bargain if you could buy one.
Just make sure and go through all the checks in the "owners doc" first. The stators seem to go alot more frequently than the coils.

definately a stator problem 9/10 times so go get the readings from the doc and go check.

check the stator ohms output, if your not getting the correct output get a sparks re-wind stator

Thanks very much to you all for the sage, and, as it turns out, spot on advice. The local dealer's opinion was as yours, so I threw in an old stator that I knew still sparked and, sure enough, the old girl fired right up.

I'll definitely check out Sparks for a rewind since this "new stator every once in a while" routine is just a trifle annoying.
