2011 FS570, I believe 6-7k miles on it (gauge isn't original), 6-700mi on the oil (Motorex 5100 IIRC), although it was surprisingly dark. Temps had been reasonable, a little higher than I'm used to (in the 170s, and it was a reasonably cool night, I'm used to seeing 160ish on the highway, but nothing unreasonable). When it cooled down and I popped the radiator cap there was coolant over the fins, so cooling was good (presuming the water pump was working)
I was riding along on the freeway, 65mph, stock gearing (14/38) so fairly low revs. A couple times (over a few miles) it briefly stumbled and then recovered, then it locked up hard, 9mi from "home" (not really home, but where I decided to take it to work on it). I clutched in and coasted to the side and got a tow "home" (a whole different story... AMA towing is downright awful, I called at 11:04pm, they said it'd take about an hour for the truck to arrive and they'd call in an hour 15 to make sure it was there etc, they called at 12:54am, said it would be another 45 minutes, they called at 1:35am, said it would be another 40 minutes, they eventually arrived at 2:17am, the truck bed was covered in oil so he put down a little kitty litter but I don't know I trust the tires, better to replace them than to crash).
I now see 3 basic options:
1) Sell the bike as is
2) Tear it down, if parts are in decent shape do a basic build: the cases need to come apart to inspect parts in the bottom end, so I'd probably go 610, but other parts pretty much stock unless there's something that really warrants upgrading. If the head and crank are decent, this is the most likely scenario.
3) Do a balls to the wall build, probably a 662. If the crank is bad, why not go stroker. If the head is bad, probably find a 12-15 450SXF/XCF head. I don't want a total high RPM screamer so I'd probably stick with the stock cam for that head. Would this be a reasonable street engine? This isn't a track bike, I have something else for that. I want something with reasonable longevity and moderate maintenance schedule (I mean, all 570s are fairly high maintenance, my point is I don't want an engine that needs rebuilds/maintenance a few times as often as stock)
Bike is relatively stock: it has a pipe, a fuel unit (I forget the brand, one of the ones everyone makes with 3 buttons), handguards, etc... nothing crazy.
In any of the cases, I'll probably at least pull the engine and cam cover first so I can see how bad it is. Is there a good guide somewhere for dropping the engine? About what does it weigh?
