Secondary Shaft Oil Leak Fix

Hi all

Want to share this experience with you guys, on my FE400-02 I was having an oil leak from the sprocket shaft, and it was making a mess. A bit irritating

First I thought it was the seal, and changed it, but it wasn't, the mess continued ...

Looked again and noticed that the sprocket had a bit too much gap and most of the time it wasn't the spacer turning, it was the shaft turning inside the spacer.

First tried to fit a 1mm washer between the sprocket and the circlip, but it was too much and couldn't fit the circlip. Then tried to fit another oring between the spacer and the sprocket, and also it was too much, couldn't also fit the circlp.
Finally looked inside of the spacer and noticed that it had a bit more space inside than I thought, space to try to fit another oring (22.1x1.6). So I've fitted 2 orings inside, on the shaft, and it was a perfect fit.
The sprocket now it has almost no gap, the spacer turns with the shaft, and the oil leak has gone. :spin:

Don't know if this would be true to all bike or is just mine that is a bit odd, but I'm already used to that :D

Anyway, just wanted to share the experience.

did you use a Husky 2T sprocket instead of Husaberg? they are 11mm wide and not 12mm.

I have usewd a Husky sprocket but only to draw the chain away from the frame and added a washer on the outside too. that meant the final drive chain was over 2mm.

I agree, a sloppy sprocket makes for an oil leak....

That's interesting info there. I never knew that, like a lot of things really.
I might try that but reversed, together with my modified rear sprocket as a spacer to get chain/tyre clearance. I simply machined all the teeth off an old alloy one to make.

Is there a particular Husky 2T model to use or do they all interchange?

I'm sure someone here knows the code but basically we're talking 1970s and 80s - ll models

Hi

I'm using the BERG one with 12mm.

For my bike the 11mm wide with the washer could be interesting since I've noticed that I have a bit of wear in the sprocket on the engine side, and none on the other side.

But in my bike I would always use it would the 1mm washer, since I need those 12mm wide to keep things tight.

Hi again

I've searched in a catalogue of sprockets and only found one possible alternative in Husqvarna. (pictures attached)

It's not exactly the same, but it's 11mm wide.

The problem is that is off-centre, so if you pull the chain to the engine side maybe could be a bit dangerous ?? If you pull the chain to the other side probably would be bad to the frame ??

This sprocket is used in a lot of bikes CR250 00-01, TC250 06-09, TE/TC250 04-05, TE250 06-10, WR250 90, 00-05 TE350 91-95, .... etc

Don't feel very comfortable with this solution ??

Thanks zaga.

I'll try and get hold of one and test it anyways. The other small drama is the ridge on the swing arm slider opposes the sprocket alignment a little. I've modded mine a bit though. I used a standard steel 12mm front sprocket with a washer behind it, about a mm or so, and grinded the same off of the circlip side of the sprocket so it could fit. The chain only just rubbed the paint off the frame but it's better than a chunked tyre.
