Seat Screw -works loose

I have noticed that the seat screw works it way out (a few turns) after about 20 miles. I have thought about something (velcro/zip tie) that could go thru the loop and attach to the rear fender. I guess I could use locktite or some silicone. Anyone else have this problem and determined a solution? Obviously, I would like to be able to remove it without busting out the cutters or pliers.
Thanks,
John

yep me too. noted in the info sheet.

the problem is the screw. it is undersize so a helicoil of the frame ain't gonna sort it either!

i used PTFE tape. over in the uk that is a kinda plumbers tape that fits threads like a condom it's that thin.

i beleive that later screws didn't have this problem.

My 04 did the same thing. The frame mounting bracket nut looks as if it was counter bored, removing some of the threads, and the screw has a reduced diameter shank, probably to keep it from falling out of the seat.

I tried various things to fix it and ended up making a 1/4" long sleeve out of 1/4" ID 3/8" OD LEMANS - URETHANE gas line tubing. I forced it over the screw threads and onto the reduced diameter shank. It compresses into the counter bore on the frame bracket when you tighten the screw and so far has kept it from loosening while riding. I still bungee the bail on the screw when hauling the bike on my trailer though!

My seat screw used to loosen up, But some how the threads got buggered up a little now the seat stay's tight?

I almost buggered mine up by leaving dirt chunks on the screw tip (fender well side) and started to force the screw out. But then I got wise to the situation. Now it comes right out!
Aside from taking a hammer to the threads. I may end up doing a combo of the two. I would hate to be flipping it around in a sand wash to go back and pick up my seat during this weekends race. Hey, I just had a thought. Maybe I should use a Pin and Clip. I would just need a Pin long enough to support a washer and clip on the underside. Hmm That just might work. Except for digging it out when access is needed on a mud ride. But then again, It doesn't come out then either. What do you think?

Mine only ever turns one or two revolutions - theres still plenty left to grip, so i don't worry about it.

My 03 did the same thing, backed its way out even with the tab down. I put some hot glue on the screw threads and installed the screw while the glue was still hot. It has worked so far.

Going with a nut

When I looked closer at it, I found that the screw has enough threads sticking out that I was able to put a nut on the bottom (fender side). That should be good for tomorrows 108 mile desert trek..
Thanks for all the tips :D
