hey guys ,got a problem.I have an airleak where my intake boot meets the cylinder, things seem fine until I tighten up the hose clamps on the carb. The top of the boot pulls away from the cylinder just a crack.I have tried using the pematex 2Baround the junction but still the same issue.when the carb is moved or touched the idle goes wild, also when i took it apart this last time,i noticed some of the 2B splattering around the intake port and down around the valves.Any ideas what I should use to seal this area?Other than that,Dale,Thank you sir!Bike starts on the button, runs much much coolerand idles like a dream!

If you apply the sealer from the outside after tightening the hose clamps on the carb, I would recommend either 'Shoe Goo', which will stick to the engine and the boot, or 'Threebond 1211'.

ShoeGoo is a urethane and sets up overnight to a hard rubber consistence, and it sticks to metal and rubber real well. It also fills a much larger void than the 'ThreeBond'

The 'ThreeBond' is a silicone that sets up quite soft, and does not fill large gaps but is quite flexible. I don't know how well it will stick to the carb boot.

The 'ThreeBond' takes 3 days to achieve full cure.

If the leak is truly between the boot and the head, and is caused by the boot being deformed by the clamp, I would replace the boot. In the mean time I would try the Shoegoo.

What ever repair method you use, you need to clean ALL of the oil and peratex off of the surfaces first..

Shoe Goo can be purchased at Home Centers, Target, WalMart, etc.

ThreeBond1211 can be purchased from your local European Motorcycle dealer

Let us know what you do and how well it works out.

Joe

How much would it cost to replace the rubber manifold with a new one ?.

This would sound like a good fixable cure to me. This problem generally occurs when the manifold has been over torqued.

Regards

Sparks.

Hey Joe,tried the goo and didnt like the results. The package reads only good up to 150 degrees but tried it anyway. After a 10 minute idle I shut it down and noticed smoke coming from the boot area for about the next 5 min. That had me a little worried so I took it apart and noticed the goo had pretty much melted and I could rub it off with my finger.Pematex website shows a few products that could work I just have to find where to get it.As for a new boot I will call Dan after the holiday and price out a new one.I would just hate to buy a new one and have the same problem. HO HO HO!

RE: Re: sealers

advertise here at UHE for that manifold. there may be one or two knocking about. when you do the keihin conversion you can modify the original or you can play safe and modify a new one keeping the OEM one back. when all goes well with the conversion - you have a spare manifold. that's how i did it but i've already sold mine to someone.

good luck schutzy

Sorry schultzy, my bad. I have temperature readouts on my flywheel and clutch covers, and they peak out at 175 F.
