Screwed up big time, lower cam chain sprocket

hello! I basically put the lower cam chain sprocket the wrong way around and it slid all the way to the bottom with one or to gentle taps, preheated to 200C. There is maybe 2 mm room between the teets and aluminium. No chance for the puller to reach in. I did get some steel wire around the teeths and onto the puller and ripped the wire off. It's on there really tight.

How about using a couple of high quality hose clamps. Hose clamps are very strong. If you have 2mm of room between the case and the sprocket I would think that a hose clamp could be slid through and either clamp the puller to the sprocket or tighten the hose clamp tight around the sprocket and then affix the puller claws where you screw the hose clamp together somehow.

You could possibly use hose clamps to clamp a slide hammer to the gear. Probably heating the gear with a torch just before hammering should help. Not too hot as you don't want to ruin any heat treatment of the gear. I would toss it in a bucket of water as soon as I got it off.

I'm no metallurgist but if you didn't want to affect the heat treatment of the gear then quenching it in a bucket of water after heating with oxy acetylene or MAP gas would be THE LAST THING to do.

By all means use heat. Just don't dunk it afterward.

would there be any call for these gears if I had a half a dozen made? I had some beautiful gears made three years ago and before that alloy lower cam chain sprockets by the same man in HE30 alloy.

I'm guessing at about 80gbp (plus 16gbp VAT in the EU)

just an idea?
