Screw on the cylinder head (left side)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if someone knows what this screw is (please see the attachment, red arrow). It seem to be loose, but cannot be tightened or unscrewed. It seems to sit on a spring washer or something. A little oil seems to come out of there when the engine it running (tiny amount, like a drop every 10 minutes or less). I'm a bit worried in case it is significant (the previous owner seems to have neglected the bike rather badly...) The engine seems to run fine.
Any advice on what this is and how to "treat it" would be much appreciated.

Thanks
V.

that is the bolt that goes thropugh the top of your camchain tensioner blade. it's a long peice of plastic that presses against the camchain on the back run and is pressed in by the tensioner that you can see on the back of the cylinder block.

you need to take the rocker cover off, remove the tensioner out the back of the cylinder head and then you'll see a nut on the end of that bolt head. loosen a bit and put some silicon around the area.

don't lose that nut or you're in big trouble!

most folk would stuff a bit of clean rag below it whilst you play!

you can best see what you've got by looking at the parts manual on page 58 of the '06 parts manual.

i would do it soon - just in case...

if you want an '06 parts manual you'll find my e-mail address in your PM and send me yours so i can get the manual to you.

regards

Gday new member and welcome.

I am unable to answer your question however someone on the forums will.

You can download the workshop manuals from www.husaberg.se they will tell you exactly what it is etc.

The timing chain guide bolt is supposed to have a nylock (aircraft type) lock nut on the back of it. That is why it spins but does not seeem to tighten, the nut just spins on the other side of the bolt. The chances are it will not come loose (how lucky do you feel?).
If I have one that leaks I usually clean it off well and apply some RTV silicone sealer around the bolt. It's not pretty, but it seems to work

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I'm paranoid of doing anything to the engine myself, to be quite honest (thought I will have to to check the valve clearances soon). I think I'll try to silicon it - it this something I can get in local store (like Halfords or B&Q in UK)? Excuse my uselessness and ignorance...

Taffy, PM'd you for the parts manual, thanks.

Cheers

On your engine (2004) there's no back nut. The bolt threads into a pivot shaft the rests on the inside of the cylinder head.

Try removing the cam chain tensioner, and with one finger, pull the chain guide towards you slightly while tightening the bolt. When it tightens up (and it will), use some shop paint to mark it's position so you can see if it starts to loosen again.

Thanks Ken,

Having had a look at it again, it may just be "spinning tight", if that makes any sense. I'll try to silicon it and leave it until I have to go "in".

Cheers

Quick update, siliconed it (not high temp, all I had at the time), but it came loose again (I was lucky to spot it half way out while resting on the track). Got home, cleaned it, put a lot of Locktight 243 on the threads and screwed it back in. Once screwed in I put some new RTV silicon around it. I should have time to test it tomorrow. Hope it stays in, failing that I will open her up and do it properly...

Hey V... did the small bolt have the copper washer? It should...

Hi Kev,

It was a washer, but it looks like aluminium, unless I'm wrong... Why are you asking? Anything I missed?

Thanks

Cheers.

Hope so, but I will sure take the silicon stuff and locktight with me on Sunday (planning a longer trip). Trouble is, I'm not sure the locktight will work in the oily environment. I guess I'll find out tomorrow...

Thanks
V.
