Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of taking my engine to pieces and have managed to put a couple of scratches on the inlet valve stems.
I was using a valve spring compressor, but it looks like I've scratched the stems whilst removing the collets.
I just clamped the spring compressor in place and wound it in until the collets popped out, but it looks like i should've 'shocked' them out of place using a hammer.
Valves and valve seats etc all look OK otherwise.
Can I lightly buff these scratches out?
You can feel a sharp edge when running your finger across the scratch and I think it'll wreck the valve stem seals if it's not fixed.
I'm planning on replacing the stem seals anyway, is it advisable to get new inlet valves too?
I'm trying to do dismantle the engine myself to save some £££, then put all the bits into my local mechanic to measure wear / tolerances etc as I've not got the equipment.
Anything which is still servicable will be going back into the engine, as I've not got a lot of £££ going spare at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
