Hello Guy's,

Which steering stablizer would you all reccommend, the Scotts or a GPR?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Be Blessed Brothers, Eric.

The Scott's hands down.

I have written a few posts on the advantages of the Scott's that can be found by searching my posts.

To sum up quickly, the Scott's is very tunable, does not promote arm pump, and is extremely well built and lasts forever. I am still using the first one I bought in 96. I have changed the oil 4 times, and never have had a leake or any other problems.

It's the only damper I would buy.

Scotts it is!

I was leaning toward the Scotts, but figured I would see anyone had anything to say about the GPR, I just really like the anodized blue. I am a farkle hoochie momma......

Thanks Dale.

I had both and couldn't tell the difference other than my GPR was and under the bar mount which I liked better than the over the bar mount. Like you, I also like it because it was orange (KTM at the time). I didn't have either long enough to thing about rebuilding them. Seems like I read one of the two didn't dampen on the return to center.

The Scott's damper is available in the following mounting locations, front fender, above the bar, and my favorite, sub mount which positions the damper below the bar. The sub mount raises the handle bar by 25mm or 1". Scott's will be more than happy to find you a set of bars that offset this 25mm rise if desired. Taller guys like me, who stand a lot like the 25mm rise in bar height.

The Scott's dirt steering damper only dampens from center out. This allows for quicker return, and no damper induced arm pump.

The Scott's damper also allows one to set how many degree's of damping from center out; 34*, 44*, 54* and 90*.

The Scott's damper has two damping circuits, low or base, and high speed. Each is fully adjustable. Just like suspension, with a little testing and homework you can make this damper work exactly how you want it, and, it is adjustable on the fly. I usually run my base valve 1.5 turns out in slower conditions, and 1 turn out in faster conditions. The less base valve (1.5 turns out) the more sensitive the High Speed becomes, and conversley the more base valve ( 1 turn out) the less sensitive the high speed is.

Unlike the competitions claims on their web site, the Scott's not only has a high speed circuit, just like your shock, but it is also tuneable, and it works.

Here is a link to the instruction manual, begin at page 9 for how the controls work:

I also had the same dilemma. Dale and others set me straight. I have the underbar mount and with all the great info and advantages that Dale spells out the Scott's is cheaper!! All those crazy advantages and cheaper. Really is a no brainer!!

I have under bar mounted Scotts on my Bergs. Great things.

The new Fastway looks interesting, and in many ways a Scotts clone I guess.

The new Fastway is an Ohlins clone. I have seen guys adjust themselves into a corner with the Scotts damper. I have used a GPR with good results. I currently use the Motosportz damper with great results. www.motosportz.com .

One of the big magazines did a test of all the available dampers a couple years ago. They found the Scotts and the GPR were better for more open stuff and rated the WER unit better for the tighter, eastern US conditions. I have broken too many WER dampers as they are mounted on the front fender. You can get the GPR with a lighter oil so it is better in the tighter stuff. The Motosportz damper also works great in the tighter stuff.

I'm with CrazyTed on this. I never used a GPR but had a couple Scotts and WERs. I've been using the Motosportz for nearly a year, first on a '10 FE390 and now on a '12 TE300 and prefer it in the tight lock to lock tree banging roots ruts and rocks that I ride (adjustment mostly set in the middle of + -). It works similar to WER.

Thans Everyone!

I ordered up the Scotts under bar mount.

This bike is going to be Spectacular when it is complete!!
