Scotts KTM sharkfin doesn't quite fit the Husaberg

This relates to an 07 FE550E. Upon initial fitment it looked good, but I noticed the axle now projected farther into the axle nut. Careful measuring showed a difference in the axle boss thickness. The Husaberg caliper mount measures 20mm wide. The Scotts/KTM caliper mount/sharkfin measures 18mm wide. Thus the swingarm is pulled in by 2mm when the axle nut is tightened.
This difference is on the outboard side of the caliper axle boss. It is apparent when looking at the space between the inside of the left swingarm and the caliper mount. Stock there is 1mm between the mount and the plastic swingarm hole plug. With the Scotts unit in place, the caliper mount presses against the the plastic plug.
I machined up an aluminum washer 20mm ID x 38mm OD x 2mm thick. With this between the Scotts caliper mount/sharkfin and the left swingarm, everything lines up properly.

That probably explains why I have to tighten my axle nut down to about 100 ft lbs to get it to fit snug

I had a customer buy one for a o6 550 and it did the same thing. Scotts sent me a washer like you made. MY customer didn't want a washer and I gave him his money back.
I didn't blame him. I've sold several others including one for my 07 450 and it was perfect no washer. Don't have a great answer but I have seen it before.Scott's had some goofy answer can't remember what it was. Might try to call them

Hi Gang,

Had a closer look at mine. I fitted it from new, and the one on my 98 was perfect so didn't look too close. Yep, its too thin, so I made up a spacer out of a bit of sheet and attached with a couple of countersunk screws so it stays put. Pic here http://www.husaberg.org/index.php?set_a ... _photo.php Thanks for the heads up.

Cheers
Steve

That's a good method, I just put a little silicone seal on mine to keep it in place.
