Scott damper mounting opinions ?

It kind of depends on how tall you are as well. But, for me, there is no option, I would go with the sub mount. It raises the bars about 25mm's, and leaves you with the two most forward options on your bar clamps. I loaned my bike to Scott's for them to develop the mounts for the both the 01 and the 04, that's my bike in the picture but I see that they put a shiny new stabilizer on for the pic. If you have a pre-04, it uses a different steering head bearing adjuster nut and will require some simple modification to get the sub mount to work. If it is 04 or later the kit they supply will work fine.

I'm 6'1" tall and the sub mount set up made the layout more comfortable for me.

I do prefer the sub mount for 2 reasons
a) Safety - think what happens to your chest-(protector) if you crash the knobs on the above bar mountig :(
now somebody with 2 broken rips because of this ...
b) the linkage to the dampfer is shorter - in the case of crash less force is put on this linkage - hupefully less damage

Looking forward to hear others opinions
 
I modified a KTM submount system to work with my Husaberg two years ago when I bought it. It works perfectly. I have submounts on my other brands of bikes as well.

I think sub mount is the only way to go as far as steering dampers.

I forgot about the safety part, and I shouldn't have. I caught mine in the throat once, hurt like heck for 3 weeks!! That's when I decided to do the sub mount.

Sorry to contradict you, the link arm you talk about is actually the same. Scotts just pulls it off and turns it about 180 degrees.

You are 100% right - the linkage on the damper is the same :iagree:

I meant the "stick" from the frame to the damper-linkage - the sorter the better I believe;
Just in case it got hit by something, the "lever" (hope you understand what I mean) is shorter,
therefore the damage should be not so big,or?

The pin that the arm (lever) attatches to is the same distance no matter how the arm is mounted on the damper. It just gives the appearance of being shorter when it is mounted in the "backwards" position because the linkage arm doesn't stick out as far from under the long side of the damper.

You have a couple of options as far as Sub-Mounting a Scotts Damper goes...We've installed a "sub-adapter" set up which is basically a spacer that goes between your stock bar clamps and stock Triple clamp, or you can go with the BRP upper Triple Clamp (Black) with the Sub Mount system...more money but very trick, very clean and this gives you a rubber mounted handlebar as well as a sub system.

kurt, any pics of the brp? & how much ? Just passed thru 1k miles on my 650 that I got from you. I love it & she deserves some bling plus I do like the steady lines only a damper will give you .
 
OK, Gokai was talking about the post height being shorter. I'm with the program now. That is another advantage to running the UBM set-up, for sure.

GREAT...glad to see your enjoying the bike...every Berg deserves a little bling....I sent you a pm regarding the sub mount stuff...there are photos on our site and brpit.com has some too (not sure about berg photo though).

Scotts with BRP sub mount for me. Very clean install. Raised bar 1" and used stock bar and mounts. BIKEBARN will support all your motorcycle needs.
 
Thanks for all the opinions, it looks like the decision is easy -> submount looks like the favourite.
