Hi everyone new Husaberg owner here. Picked up a 2010 fix 450 this year. Great bike was riding a 1990 rm 250 before. Huge step up rode the berg everywhere it’s street legal. Raced my first ever race with it to not bad for a 48 yr old. Lol was really enjoying the bike thought it was going to be my last bike. I tend to keep them for a while. Was out enjoying a ride with the boys and was flat out in 6th when the motor went bang and blew a smoke cloud out so bad couldn’t see the trail behind us. When I got home and assessed the damage it’s real ugly. Dropped a valve into the piston and destroyed head and piston, cylinder has deep gouges and crank has marks on rods from debris. Won’t feel comfortable without getting rebuilt. So I looked into rebuilding it and it’s so expensive I’m ready to give up and go buy another bike. Was hoping I could get some advice on how to do this cheaper. There are no labor costs involved I do my own work. Talked to la sleeve was around 900$ for new rod installed on crank. Resleexed cylinder and piston. Keep wondering if I can go with a big bore at this point? Anyhow that part of rebuild I’m ok with. The cylinder head makes me want to cry. Cycle buy wants 636$ for what they call a complete head. It doesn’t come with valves springs or keepers. The intake valves were 173$ a piece. Was telling me exhaust valves were superseded. Couldn’t get price. Assume they are similar to intake. Still need 4 springs keepers and shims. God knows what all that costs. Some stuff might be reusable from old head. I’m guessing close to 3000$ when I get new gaskets and bearings and all the little stuff. At that point I’m spending what the bikes worth to fix it. Where can I save money here? I assume
valves are titanium and I could run steel? Was wonder about getting new head from eBay? None listed but I believe there are ktm heads that are the same? Really like this bike and want to keep it going if possible. Any advice on where I can save money or who to send crank and cylinder out to. I’d post pictures of the carnage but I don’t know how to.
