Running in period- new FS 570

Hey guys,

I'm hoping someone can help share their experience in either what to do or what not to do!
I am stoked to be picking up a 2010 FS 570 tomorrow- supermoto I know, but I hope to hear from any 570 owner or anyone who has run in a new bike.I have had a handful of different bikes over the years but this will be my first berg and first brand newie.I have limited mechanical bike knowledge, and only worked on mostly older- modified V8's in the past.

I'm sure the workshop manual has details re - break in period, dropping the running in oil and when the valve clearances should be checked... But as I have had a couple of experienced people tell me different do's and dont's when running the bike in, I just wanted to see if anyone can let me know their experience.
Not to be fussy,I just want to get it right to avoid any dramas.

I'm sure the process is quite different to when I was younger and the first thing a lot of the lads would do after putting a car engine back together was flog it up the mountain or the highway for 60 or 70 ks and full song!

Thanks to anyone who replys.

Cheers.

Thanks for that! - yes it does seem to make sense and that was exactly what I was looking for- I appreciate it!

I would run the bike smoothly and without full throttle through all the gears and downshifting through each gear as well. Ride the bike for about 15 minutes. After that shut it off and immediately drain the oil and take out both screens.

You will see a lot of junk in your main screen and likely secondary screen. This is normal so don't panic. It's just excess gasket, metal flashing and bit of the face of each gear. It should clean up after 10 hours or so and you won't see anything. Change the main oil filter as well. Add some good non synthetic oil and then precede with a good aggressive break in, the linked method is a good one.

Enjoy!

Thanks for your advice- so you say NON synth oil is the go also? You obviously have used the method in the link?

Use non synthetic for the first 10 hours or so. The thinking behind this is that it allows the rings to seat better in the cylinder. After that synthetic is great.

just remember that the bike already went on a dyno at the factory and got pinned to see if a. it puts out the HP its meant to and b. it doesn't go bang in the first 5 mins!! that oil is probably still in it.

Just ride it like you stole it and dump the oil sooner rather than later. the only thing you can do wrong is cruise at one rpm for a period of time.
