Hey guys and gals
Some of you older members will know me but some of the new don’t…
Not that I don’t love ya but my berg , 05 FE550 has been GREAT and have been trying to sort other bikes

I need some advice from the ones that know the 04-08 bikes like mine

I am entered in a Non Event some where out west some time in the next year that’s 5 days Ralley 250-450 miles a day.
I have a KTM 690 (some of you old members remember KTfnM from be when they got their hands on the berg but its really all for the best now) that’s well ready to go on just that type of race but………………………

PLUS
I still really love the way the 05-08 550’s ride they just rip. I know its uncomfortable to ride for 250 miles but it sure is nice in the **** that you know will make up the majority of the day, Truck / old race corse whoops, deep sand , dry water falls, long rock gardens. All but the rock gardens the Berg has the advantage

Negative
Sucks to ride for 400 miles over and over
Oil change interval. I have since new changed my oil at least every 400 miles. But crap that’s every day ….and did I say we are camping. This could be a service nightmare every night
Husaberg 5 gallons 180 miles ........KTM 8 gallons 250 miles .... just farther really
Long fast two track and gravel roads KTM will run 80 mph and not even really get warm and back in sooooo nice
I can stand up for long periods of time on the 690 and the berg just makes me hurt standin ...different ergos

Help me decide. Do you see any reasons NOT to? Do you think it would be a good choice to run that long, and we wont be lopin the mule., it will get run hard the whole way
Did you guys figure out a way to increase the oil capacity, if it could double I might think about skipping a day.

The berg is almost ready to go after some serious love since the snow flew here. Just need to make some NAV setups and what not

Whatcha think?

And why did you want to do this event Bob??? The BQ (Brutality Quotient) sounds pretty high.

Sounds like you talked yourself into the Katoom. Better ergos for long hours in the saddle and capable of hours of high speed operation. Fuel injection don't hurt either.
The Berg has got to long in he tooth by now as well. As far as the oil change interval, I'm sure you can get 2 days out of it as long as you the level at fuel stops. Just run some of that good Motrex synthetic the KTM likes so much.
The Berg sound like your trail ridin single track bike...a good place for it.

On a side note, I found that Rekluse and verified all the parts, instructions etc.. are still in the box. Let me know if your still interested.

By the way what is this event ?

This will make you LOL I am Rallye style preparing building a 01 FX550 to do the CDR " Continental Divide " Canadian border to Mexico boarder ride this summer (A full build up to follow in couple months ) my thoughts are that if the terrain gets tough, you will appreciate the nimble lighter bike, I taking a lead from the 3 Polish guys who completed the most severe reaches of Siberia on KTM 400 EXC

Ringgap
I cant tell you about the ralley cause its pretty underground but it is a serious race thats hard to get in.
CD ride.....the only techical part is southern New Mexico if it rains and then I dont think even a Husaberg will make it
I did it north to south on a bmw f650 in 5 days and wasnt pushing and did several sections that were biclyles only.
set the berg up and do the loop around the grand canyon... that you will enjoy and can use the nimbleness of the berg
