So I was having a charging issue 12.1 to 12.4 volts with the headlamp off. Trouble shooting the usual suspects with my mechanic:
1. Quick wire inspection - Reg/Rec replacement - no change
2. More thorough wire inspection. Connectivity tests and grounds check - a bit of a fiasco since the prior owner monkeyed with the wiring. - slight improvement but still below 12.5
3. Double check all grounds, clean all ground surfaces (earths for those across the pond) - all good
4. Bite the bullet and replace stator - no change (ouch, those things are spendy!) What's left?
Just couldn't believe it was the rotor - spendy and hard to get (backordered on KTMparts.com and Boss didn't have one either);
5. Score a Rotor/flywheel (allegedly the last one on a shelf in America - and it was $100 bucks more than KTM parts)
Viola - 13.4-13.6 charge.
Still, I really couldn't imagine the flywheel losing that much magnetism and never heard of an 05 flywheel going bad. Anyone else have a rotor go bad on a 2004 and up 'berg?
