Greetings all, Got back yesterday from a few days in Colorful Colorado.
Had the pleasure to meet and ride with Stoveguy and Stoveguy's Bro, they were kind enough to take my buddy Greg and I on a ride around the Aspen Loop. 49 miles of rocks, a little rain and some greazee mud sections. The trail consisted of ATV/two-track, some single-track and Forest Service road to tie it all together. As Stoveguy pointed out the FS road enables you to get the truck close to anyone that breaks (bike or body) as you cross these roads and use them for transition to the next strech of trail. I would not say this ride is a tough one, which I was thankful for because the day before I got my *** handed to me by a trail that was my fav in the area. But heavy rains recently washed out a normally moderate trail. Doing the Husaberg Clean & Jerk at 9500 ft. will wear your butt out fast.
The Aspen Loop is not a totally sit down & cruz, there are enough rock strewn uphills and mud holes to keep you on your toes while taking in the awesome surroundings. The FS roads also give you a chance as Stoveguy sez " Find a few higher gears" powerslide some long sweepers and grab all the BREAK you can when you over-shoot a 90 degree turn with a huge cattleguard ( those things are slippery when wet) I hope that aspen tree survives the chunk my bark-basher took out of it.
If you have a chance to ride in SW Colorado don't miss the Aspen Loop acess is easy and Latitude 40 has great maps of the hundreds of miles of trail in the area.
MUCHO Thanks to Stoveguy and Bro for a great day of riding and fine people to ride with!!
