Rocker Arm Failure - Update

I reported earlier that what I expected to be failed rocker arm rollers making an odd top-end noise turned out to be a shredded water pump impeller. I've finally had a chance to look a little more closely and what I'm seeing is perplexing.

The remains of the impeller, new about 100hours back, are of a chalky composition, almost like compressed paper. It is now white in color instead of the original green. I have been running standard ethlyn glycol antifreeze. Is this a problem with plastic impellers? Anyone seen anything like this. I have been running the same type antifreeze for 3 years. The previous impeller showed no signs of decomposition. I changed it just to be safe when I rebuilt the top end.

Thanks,

On my 98 fe600e I had the exact same issue. the impeller basically began to break down, it became very brittle and turned to powder, the pin spun out. fourtuantly i noticed the issue prior to doing some real damage. I was also using standard antifreeze . I attributed the condition to higher than normal temps and a possible chemical reaction with the anifreeze.

Yes, I aw this before on several KTM engines we had mounted in quads. If I am correct KTM offers an aluminium impeller (SXS part?) or a couple of the aftermarket companies have them. I don't know if this is offered for Husaberg also.

When my impeller failed "circlip failure" the impeller ran against the cover and turn my coolant a milky gray, I think it was from the aluminum?
