Hi All,

Can anyone piont me in the right direction to what make and type of road tire to use?.

Sparks.

Hi Matt,

The rear is 4.25 not to sure of the front not arrived yet but size wise 160 rear and 120 front.

Hey sparks,

As it seems you're going to the dark side of motard, I would most highly recommend the Avon sm front wet (road legal) and the Avon Distanza rear.

sizes should be: 120/70 front or a 150 or 160/60 rear.

Otherwise there are a multitude of other choices including the Maxxis range and any H rated road bike tyre. A z rated road bike tyre is overkill.

Hope this helps,
Simon

You have numerous tire choices available including sport and sport-touring tires. I can't imagine you would run enough highway miles to want a high mileage sport-touring tire but it's possible.

If you have a 4.25x17 rear rim the optimal tire size is the 150/60/17. 5.0x17 size rims are a better fit for 160/60/17 tires. Most every major sport or sport touring tires are available in these sizes.

Michelin Pilot Power or Pilot Race SM Slicks!
Metzeler M3 Sportec or Racetec Drift SM Slicks!
Dunlop Qualifier, D209GP or KR106/KR108 SM Slicks!
Pirelli Diablo or MT60R Corsa Rain
Avon Viper Sport, Distanzia or Pro-Xtreme Rain
Bridgestone BT014
Maxxis Goldspeed or Presa SM Slicks

Enough choices for you?

i found the MAXXIS tyres i had fitted when my berg was in supermoto form were very good.

they provide a very good grip level but wear very quickly as you would expect , do want super grip or long life ?

I have used the Metzeler M3 Sportecs on my Husky SMR and found them to be excellent tires, especially for the price.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the advice, the reason I asked was I found a tire company on the Internet and the choices were endless.

I am going with a set of Michelin Pilot Power they seem a middle of the road tire, and the price isn't to bad either, to go through a shop out here to get these would cost you twice as much so all in including post for 239 Euros I don't think that's to bad.

hi sparks
you really net to run a 150 rear as a 160 is to big and the rim will distort the tire profile
the best iv found for the road is pilot race, they have fast warm up and awesome grip and one of the only manufacture to make a sticky 150 rear .
as for race tire i would recommend a Metzeler drift it comes in to compounds super sort and soft.
well that my 2cents worth
cheers Matt 8)

Hi Matt,

Yes I have ordered the rear in a 150 profile I think it is the 5 inch rims that take the 160.
Thanks for the advise anyway.

Hey guys,

Although pretty much correct in that a 150 is more suitable for a 4.25" rear rim and a 160 more so for a 5", it is worth clarifying that it is not necessarily the stated aspect of the tyre that determines its suitability for a particular rim. Usually you can get charts from manufacturers stating suitable rim widths for particular sizes of tyre. I used to have one for reference from the Dunlop race division where some tyres could be suitable for use on rims ranging a whole 1.5" in width.

There are therefore tyres that are 160 and wholly suitable for use on a 4.25" rim.

It is always worth a note to the manufacturer to check if you want to consider a new tyre.

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Guys,

I have been driving Pilot Powers for the last couple of years and I think they are brilliant.
On a dry road all the aformentioned tires/brands are great. But on wet roads the Pilot Powers are by far the best tires available. Several tire-comparing test in Europe have shown that nothing beats them in the rain and in the dry they usually end up in the top 3.

I've fitted Bridgestone BT090 on the front and rear wheels of my bike. They seem to stick to the road very well. Has anyone got an idea of the expected life of these tyres when used on an FS650e as I'm not sure how soft they are?

Goldspeed Pre-cut

We had riders down in Hungary for a week testing and training.

The top level Husaberg riders was very satisfied with the Goldspeed Pre-cut slick 120/70-17", this is a street legal version. Good grip and very little vibration chatter.
They also rode the rear pre-cut as well, the only complain was that it took a bit longer to heat up, this was also a 160/60-17" E4 streetlegal version.
Suiteble for 4.25" rim or 5.00", the tire get a little better shape with a 5.00.
There will be a 165/56-17" availeble soon, tested and in production.
The 160/60-17" is not as wide as compereble brands, some brands are very wide as a 160/60 model.

You can find all availeble sizes at: www.schuurmanbv.com or www.goldspeed.nl

Thomas

RE: Goldspeed Pre-cut

Is there an advantage in having 16.5" front rim, or a 5.5" rear rim? I see they are available.
