RK chains

It's time for a new chain. The RK (I think the sealed O-ring chain) only lasted maybe 40 or 50 hrs it
seems. And it is already stretched to 6" measurement with 9 pins between. I think new is 5.85.
Anyway its junk. I went back to DID VM X-ring. 116 pins with a 15/48 gearing.
Even so with the 116 the 120/100/18 Pirelli scorpion mx extra almost hits the mud flap and the axle is
closer the back than the front even.
I like the 47 rear sprocket also and may bolt it and it will bring the wheel back more.
The 48 helps getting up over the steep technical rock climbs a little better. That's about all though, because
I am missing a little of the run up speed that I liked with the 47.
So the 47 it will be. But I got to keep my finger on the clutch when climbing tight in first.

When new, 9 links on a chain is 5.625".

Adding 2 links to a chain will set the wheel back by 0.625". Maybe you should have used 118 links?

Thanks Gregg,
The way I was told to measure was from the inside of 2 pins with 9 pins in between.
And Its good to know how far 2 links will bring the wheel back.

Just checked. With 116 pins and 15/48 gearing the axle is already about 3/4 from being all the way back.
The 118 would probably max it out without any future adjustment or going with the 47. Im good on the pins.
It's just that the Pirelli 120/100 is a really tall tire. (Side wall height). It barely rubs.
In contrast, another favorite tire I like the IRC M5B 130/80 works fine. It is 104mm tall in comparison
to the Pirelli being 120mm tall.
