Hello everyone this is my first post as I'm still reading through all the info on this great site!.

I've just aquired a 2002 FE400 with a Rino end can fitted. I was told that no adjustment to jetting is required so can anyone verify that this is correct?

cheers

Welcome to the site. I think you could do a plug check and see if any adjustment to the jetting is needed. Taffy`s infor sheet is a good place, you might find what you are looking for there. Somebody here who knows more about these things might be able to help you more. Once again welcome to the site.

Thanks for the replies.

The bike's in bits at the moment as I decided to clean the thing up and sort out the starting problems. It started resonably well from cold when I got it but not so well from hot. After messing with the mixture screw I improved the hot starting but nearly had a coronary trying to start it from cold the following day!

As far as I'm aware the jetting is standard but the choke mechanism was full of dirt and seemed to be sticking so I've cleaned everything up. Carb needle looks a bit worn and the valve clearances seemed slack (nearly 1/2 turn on the tappet screw?) which I've adjusted to 1/8 turn.

I'll be rebuilding the bike this weekend if I can get out of decorating... here's hoping.

One other thing, any battery recommendations?

I got the 7amp battery for mine .I went to longton battery services hoping for a cheap one but nah..ended up at Bill Heads Honda (Preston) and bough the genuine honda one, it was cheaper than the wholesalers.Cant remember which model Honda its off so take yours for size comparison.
Highly recommend the use of an optimate when bikes not in use, just leave the permanant connection on the bike and plug in when bike from your rideout

Good old Bill Head, so you're a Preston lad then? The optimate looks like a must, I'm sure the berg frame is built around the battery box! What a pig to get at.

I was brought up in Walton-le-Dale and went to Walton-le-dale high school. Small world eh? I'm on the other side of the river now and like you really handy for DCR.

Adjusting the valves and giving the carb a good cleaning will help. When you clean the carb where the choke lever flips up put a couple of drops of light oil on that along with the plunger thats inside. Work it up and down til it works smooth. That helps when starting.Hope this helps.

Cheers bill, I've cleaned the carb and replaced the needle (which was very worn) and the needle jet. I'll try some light oil on the choke plunger, looking at the amount of dirt in there it looks like a vulnerable spot. I've also done the valve clearances so hopefully the starting will improve.
