dale please?

i once read that the ignition curve of the SEM isn't quite spot on.

would however the CDIs from the coil be different twixt 400/501/550/650? if so does it help to fit one from one model to hop up another?

regards

Taffy

The only thing I recall is that the rev limiter is higher on the 400 coil. That is why some would consider the 400 coil an upgrade.

Taffy, I've fitted a 2003 501 coil to my 2002 400e when the original went. Not that I ride at higher R's alot, but I've not noticed a difference other than the hi-low ignition curves have a more pronounced difference at lower RPM's. BD

cheers BD

so you say it pulled harder and better at low revs? or what? sorry for the confusion. it may be that the bbike is set rich and an advanced ignition helps (here) to burn off the extra fuel with an advanced ignition curve.

just a thought.

Sorry Taffy, I was trying to say the bike just runs slightly differently with the 501 coil. Low RPM pull is the same on the "low" setting, the "high" setting puts the bike at a slightly higher RPM than it did with the first coil, but I'm just going on memory here, its been a bit since I fit it. I like the low setting better, but will use the high setting as the bike is warming up, it's that different. My bike was a bit rich when I got it, but have since jetted until I got a brown plug. I don't recall which MJ I've got presently. I would replace mine with another 501 coil if this one were to leave me. BD
