Riding in the states

It is time for work to send me to the states for a 4 month working holiday again. I will be over there towards the end march, staying in Hanford.

I am looking at doing a bit of riding while i am there so i am keen for any advice or to get together with some other riders.

I have been looking at buying a cheap bike to ride while i am over there, but am a little confused as to the laws in Calli. Do you need a liscensed bike to ride off road, are there ride parks around. Can you ride a berg on the roads in cali or is it just too hard and expensive.

I am also looking at buying some bits, (lots of bit) so i can rebuild and spruce up my 04 450. It is getting a bit smokey and tired. Is there a good dealer in or near Hanford. Any help would be greatly appreciated

squizz, Hanford, CA out in the central valley ? What the hell are you doing out there in the middle of no where ? I thought it was all cattle and crops. Contact Dan at Motoxotica he is in Vacaville, Ca he is a member here and a damn fine dealer. Not that close to Hanford (3 hours maybe, depends on time, day & how you drive) but well worth the drive. He should be able to answer your questions , get the bits you are after and sell you a good used bike !

all i can say is that we will be working in Lemoore a lot.

FWIW...squizz met up with me and tuts in Las Vegas awhile back when his work brought him here and he can ride very well so don't hesitate to invite him out.
He is great company and an excellent riding partner.

Exchange rider program?

Squizz,

I have a plated, low mileage Husaberg that is for sale in Oregon. Probably 8 hours north of Hanford. If I still have it when you are here, I could see working out some sort of rider exchange. You see, I will be in the Brisbane area, actually Nambour, in August. I would absoultley love to do a ride in the Glass House Mountain area, or wherever really. I could show you some fantasic riding here in exchange, maybe even do a cross country event if you are interested?

Thoughts?

Well, unfortunately you are about 1 year to late, about 1 hour from Hanford was Clear creek, one of the best and largest riding spots in CA, damn greenies were successful in shutting it down. east of hanford, up in the sierra montains about 1.5 two hour away there are lots of 4x4 trails. in march it will be a toss up as whether or not there will be too much snow to ride on many of them. but the great central valley of CA is FLAT and to mant environmentalists have been working to long in CA and most any place decent to ride with a couple hours drive of hanford has gone the way of the DODO bird.

Hey Brn2rde,
Will you be set up here for a while....I'm in Brisbane, and once I've sorted my 550, will be getting together with a small crew of good riders to run quite a bit around that area and a little south where the riding is better...Do you have acces to a bike when your here...?

It'd be cool to hook up and show you around...let me know

Cheers

Pilot,

I will have about a week on the Sunshine Coast that is unplanned. I do not have any bike lined up, but am considering renting if need be, or even available. after that we have a house booked on Fraser Island for a few days. Anyone with time on their hands that wants to help arrange a ride? Specific dates are August 17-23 in Nambour or Brisbane area.

Ok,
I'll look into it and see what comes up....I'm pretty sure we could set up to rent a bike...probably a DRZ 400 but it gets you on the dirt..

I'll do my best to put something together...you'd love the area, I'm guessing you've seen it before. My family's all Stateside...spread out a little, but my folks live in Smith River on the Cali side of the Oregon bordr and work at Pelican Bay....

I'd love to do some riding in that area some time down the track so if I pull this off maybe you can help me one day...

This may be an option check it out www.scartours.com

Cheers Mate I'll be in touch

You say you have family that 'works' at pelican bay? Sure, i understand, wink wink, nod nod. I've got some relatives like that too....

I't be great to get together with a group ride while I am down there. Short of pushing sheep in SA, I have never been on a real trail ride in Australia, so hopefully this can happen this trip.

I'm getting over a knee reconstruction and was hoping to be back on the bike in April or May, so should be fine for August. I'm always hanging for a ride, especially now!!

If you think you can put something together, add a post to this one

And if I'm coming, I can also bring my 501 loaner for OS visitors too. Usual rules, you break it, you fix it.

Ok Guys,
I've put up a post in the Force ride 09 section lets see what can become of it....And the folks do wrok at Pelican bay brn2rde...they don't live there, they work in the medical section fixng up the inmates when they try to kill each other which by all accounts seems to be on a regular basis..

My Brother on the other hand is in San Bernadino city PD...he's the closest thing to a hardened criminal I Know... :)

OK...so the plan is on offer, the timing is good, it'll give me a few months to work on bike fitness...I've been of the dirt fo r3 years and it's gonna hurt fo ra while I'm sure.

If we could get something set up with the SCAR guys I'm sure you'd enjoy the riding it's in a really great area...We'll jump to the other forum to continue discussion and maybe get some other punters involved lets see what goes on.

Cheers
