rev indication ....

Hi guys, i was just wondering if any of you have any sort of rev indicator fitted to your bikes ? I dont really want to start fitting an aftermarket dash either. basically im after an LED bar type rev 'counter' and was wondering if there's any out there that would suit my bike ? I'd mount it just above the dash so the more compact the better !

Whilst we're on the subject, just out of interest, what would mine rev to and where is the peak power made ?

thanks in advance

Probably your best bet is to do a google search for some kart accessory shops as that's where a lot of the sm boys pick these things up. Or have a look on the visordown.com, seventeeninches.co.uk, supermotard.co.uk forums, they're discussed at fairly regular intervals. I also think that one of the Top Peak models now has an rpm indicator too - the raptor maybe?

Your 03 model, providing that is what it is and it's standard, will punch its best at about 7300rpm to 8300rpm but will rev to way beyond 9000rpm which is total overkill.

I always reckon a short action throttle from Venhill is an excellent upgrade if you've still got the dellorto carb - helps you use what you've got much better

Cheers,
Simon

don't trailtechs have a basic revcounter?

check if scitsu are still going? they used to make revcounters years ago that everyone used. suggest you pick up a copy of classic roadracer and look through the classifieds as another option.

Being new to Berg's I'll ask a stupid question...
Don't the ignition systems have built in rev limiters on them that will stop them from over revving..? I ask because it's common place on the Harley's we get into the shop....they make power to a set level then it drops away, you can pre program maximum RPM based on various ignition systems..

Ive heard of ktm525 CDI s being used in bergs to "increase relaibillity"

not sure how that works, a rev limiter might save a few mains ?

The rev limiter on the >=2004 bikes changes the "pre-ignition" (whats that called in english?) from some -35 degrees to some +5 which obviously makes the bike stop revving.

Yes they do. The SEM has a soft limiter that cuts the spark. It starts at 9300rpm.

Scitsu still sell their units starting at a bit over 100 quid.

The guy said he was after an led bar type meter....

"ignition advance" is reduced by 5 degrees?

ah! ignition advance - thanx :D
No, not reduced by 5 degrees but some 40. I guess that would be ignition behind

Trailtech speedo's have a great little tacho/rev counter with two programmable shift litghts, one for time to change up and one for "she's gonna blow" if you don't shift up now rev head!!
Plus the usual temp guage and warning lights, ride time, total time etc.etc.

£75 well spent.

i will second plumbobs comments on the trail tech!
i think mine is the 'vapor' model and cost me about £75, it comes with all the fitting bits and bobs and is easy to set up and use!
i originally didn't want to replace my original dash but when it died i took the plunge and the trailtech fits perfectly and even on the original bracket albeit with a couple of new holes drilled in! so there is no reason to spend more on the fancy brackets and surrounds! it has an lcd display and the rev counter is a bar type at the top of the screen, shift lights are useful to stop your friends thrashing your bike if you let them have a play as they don't know what they mean and you can set them at any revs!
great bit of kit!

Has anyone found a unit that can actually function as a rev limiter? Something that grounds the killswitch wire at a specific rpm?

Acewell also make some good electronic dashboards, but I recon the Trailtech Vapor fits in better. While the Vapor does not have a limiter, it does have user-configurable warning lights intended to indicate when to change and when it is really going TOO fast.

If you do decide to go Trailtech, make sure you get a Vapor, not an Endurance as it does not do tachometer.

It is surprising just how handy the water temperature sensor on the Vapor is too! The warning lights for the revs double as water temp warnings as well.

Here is mine fitted with the Vapor indicator light board. It is absolutely magic on the road! If I had realised just how good I would have swapped out the mechanical speedo years ago.
