Resetting the return spring on my kickstarter. 04 650.

I need to reset the spring on my kick starter. Last winter when I had the bike apart I indexed the kick start shaft at least a half turn too much in the counter clockwise direction. I can use the kick starter but it will not return on its own.

Today I took it apart hoping to pull the shaft out of its notch in the rear and load the spring by turning it clockwise. But I can't seem to get the shaft out if it's indexed holder.
The clutch is still assembled.

I am not sure if I need to remove the clutch. Which would be a problem? Because I don't have the special tool need to hold the cutch while I loosen the center bolt.

Or if I am supposed to be able to get the kick starter shaft out so it can be reset a half or full turn clockwise.

All I really need to do is preload that spring.

Advice on the best way to load that spring would be welcome.
If I need to remove the clutch. Any advice needed to help me get center nut off the bolt with out the special tool need to connect the inner part of the clutch to the outer part.

yes you need the clutch off and i suggest that you watch the cam timing very carefully so you know how you're going to put it back together.

use an air gun to undo it and to tighten it but be careful. suggest you mark a point on the nut and the clutch drum and air gun it till the nut gets back to aswas.

An air impact gun "should" get the nut off without the special tool though slight outside pressure such as holding the clutch hub with a gloved hand should aid in the process.

I guess that I will have to take it to a shop that has an air tool. I don't have one. I think that some of our local welding shops might work.

Thanks
