replacing fe 350 stator

Hello.

I have a 1992 husaberg fe 350 in which the stator is dead. Now I have quite similar stator from a 125cc aprilia. I measured it and it gives 1,7 kOhm from red to black and 60 Ohm green to black instead of the 23 Ohm it should be. I'm not getting spark with this aprilia's stator and I am wondering if my ignition coil is broken as well or does the bigger resistance in between black and green wires cause the lack of spark? And yes, the stator is made to run clockwise like in husabergs.

Hi Rrosmo,

Welcome to the site, it would appear there is also something wrong with the Aprilia stator as well, as SEM never made a trigger coil with an output of 60 Ohms that I know of, but if the 60 Ohms was an honest reading it should produce a spark from the coil.
Trigger coils were either 23 or 165 Ohms.

Hi rrosmo,
to add to Sparks' post, are you sure the mechanical geometry of the stator is the same as the Husaberg part? Perhaps the trigger coil or indeed the capacitor charge coils don't align with the rotor correctly (axially offset), or maybe the radial air-gap is too big?

I'm sure you've checked, but I thought it best to ask.

Cheers... Paul

Just to clarify, all SEM stators of this type have the same external dimensions.

The only difference with the MX stator (ignition only) is you require a backing spacer to offset it to give it the same stand off as the SEM with lighting coils.

Today I tried the original stator, and I am getting a weak spark again. I have had my bike running with this stator but it was very hard to start so I started to ispect it. I located the problem to the stator; the trigger coil was ok but the charging coil was broken (unlimited). So I came to conclusion that my ignition coil is not broken after all as I'm now getting a weak spark again. It's just the stator from the aprilia doesn't just work somehow with the original ignition coil. I'm so confused right now :? anyway, I ordered a new stator (MM-ST5500L) and hope that gets my bike running again.

btw, sorry for my english

Today I changed a new stator and got my bike running again. I didn't really know how to check timing of ignition so I just put it in there somehow in middle position. It runs and starts well exepct when i'm driving at low rpm and stable speed it tugs a bit (don't know if it's the right word but i'm trying to say it doesn't go smoothly). So i'm asking if someone knows what direction should I turn the stator to?

Hi rrosmo,

You might find that it is more to do with carburation than ignition, but this ignition has a big sudden ignition advance at around 3000 rpm so if you are at constant rpm around this area it could be jumping 15 to 20 degrees back and forth.
I know this stator you have bought, keep hold of the old original stator you my need it.

Regards

Sparks.
