Removing FS650 clutch basket?

Do I need a clutch holder tool to remove the stock clutch basket? Installing a slipper. Anyone know the size of the nut? Says 18mm in the parts manual but I think that is the inside diameter.
Thx!

don't remember size exactly, but it's a common socket. (around 22mm?) easiest way is with air impact and a rag. personally don't know how a garage could exist without one.
i made a clutch holder years ago by welding an old disk to a handle. rarely need it.

I went to home depot and bought an electric 1/2 inch drive impact gun just for that purpose. No need to hold it, just bend the retaining tab flat for the nut and hit it with the impact. Comes right off. Ditto for putting it back on. You will be surprised how much you use the tool once you own it.

I made this tool from a piece of aluminium pipe (an old tentpole I think), it took me five minutes and I works perfectly..

I bolt it on two opposites clutchspring bolts.. with that you can use an ordinary socket wrench or a torque-wrench (when you bolt the clucthbasket back on)

Thanks guys! I got an impact gun at harbor freight for $22. What a deal. It takes a 27 mm socket to get the nut off. I just put it 1st gear and it came right off.

do not over torque the 27mm nut when you you put it back on or the clutch may bind and want to creep when your in gear with the clutch in. Just nip it up lightly and let the tab washer hold the nut.

With the STM slipper there is no locking tab. A new nut is supplied that is 30 mm. Anyone know what the torque spec is? I backed off the regulator on the air gun then used blue loc-tite.

It's actually slipping under full throttle. I re-used the stock fibers that had 5k miles. The stack height was under spec, so will have to try again with some new discs.
