Removed the kickstart decomp lever

First reason I did it is because the lever is worn big time and will barely pull on the cable. I can post a photo if you want but it is worn through more than half of the lever and I think that chips that came out of it would show up periodically in the oil filter.

Second reason there was a big slack in the cable and when I tried to fix it I overtorqued (not the last time I would do that) and broke the thread (see my gallery).

I have been kickstarting this bike without the kickstart autodecomp since day 1. Maybe it explained why I had issues... Maybe not. I thought it became more of a grease and grime catcher than anything useful.

Anyway, following Dale's reassurance that the cable (and the lever) could be removed, it's gone since yesterday. I plugged the hole with a nice big bolt and a bit of silicone gel. The bolt sits nicely in the groove where the spring used to sit and therefore should not be hit by the kickstart assembly.

Am I the only one to have done that?

I did that to, also removed the decompression shaft from the head as well. After that I plugged the holes. Well if it wasn`t working to start with then why keep it on? You can still use the handlebar decompression lever on your bike. Might come in handy.

I had my decomp cam thingo reground, new cam, crank, valves and exhaust headers replaced under warranty cause it wouldn't decompress enough to start. after 6 months in the shop she is sweeeeeet. let me know if ya want the contact details so they can tell ya what the final problem was

Well, I could order a new lever and a new cable, adjust it like it should, but what for? The bike starts just fine on a few kicks, maybe 1 or 2 more than I should but once hot it starts first kick, even in 2nd gear with clutch pulled, and yet there is a bit of a drag (unless my current expedition into the left side cures it).

Take not that late model Husabergs are without the kick actuated de-comp mechanism.

Leave it off:
The engine shall start easier less the cable actuated de-comp unit.
Simply rely upon manual activation and the camshaft mounted centrifugal unit.

I don't know if anyone else will agree, but I find it hard to find TDC with the kickstart activated decompressor compared to my 610 Husky which does not use one.

OK so we all agree that the thingy was superfluous and since HBG removed it, there must be a reason.

Stored it is, just in case I change my mind.
