Reliable Starting?

Hi all, I'm new here and to Husaberg, so new in fact I don't even own one :p

I'm looking at buying the 2012 FE570 but am slightly concerned about the lack of kickstart. I assume the stock ignition and battery set-up is reliable? If you have to do several consecutive starts in the bush/woods does the battery show signs of losing power?

I had an 2008 KTM 450 and whilst the starter was pretty good on that bike it did let me down a couple of times and I had to use the kickstarter to get going again.

Whilst I have had a look around the site I haven't really seen much talk of upgraded batteries, so I assume it's not really needed, unless you're after the weight saving.

Can the bikes be started with a dead battery?

I am in Canada.I bought a new 09 and have not yet had a problem. Rode over 50 times last year. Bike sat in sub zero temps for 2 winters now with no problem.

there are no starting issues with the Husaberg, we may have had a one-off problem here and there but the default setting is an easy starting bike.

Taffy

Cheers for the responses. I see it as a big drawback of the bike not having a kickstarter which is part of my concern. Being stuck miles form anywhere and unable to even to try and kick it over is a concern.

Other than that it looks like one sweet ride and I'll probably end up on a 570 soon I reckon :p

I bought a Shorai battery with some extra capacity. Was a bit nervous of starting the bike with -15C at an event with a Li-ion battery. Li-ion is known for poor starting at lower temperatures.

It started at the first touch of the button, but I did pull the choke.

My 390 does not have any starting problems whatsoever. I do put a tiny bit of Startron every now and then in the tank when the bike has to sit for a longer time.

I purchased a 2011 FE570 new in December of 2011. I have suffered from slow cranking speeds and even a dead battery (after only a couple weeks of not riding it-I went to a battery tender after this). Yesterday I ran in the Pine Ridge enduro and ran the battery down trying to start the bike when it stalled (it didn't take much at all to run it down). I ended up with a DNF and two guys doing a push start to get it started. I talked with several KTM guys in attendance and all of them recommended the Shorai battery for way improved cranking speeds and starting power.

Never have had any issue with my Fx450 or Fe450 starting. Its not something I really thought about cause I've never seen anybody have trouble with. For what its worth in 2nd they bump start fairly handy.

Tom A new battery is not going to fix your problem it's more likely a cable or part that's not charging your battery

Tommythe rockers experience is what I was concerned about. I ride in some pretty nasty terrain that may mean frequent starting trying to get my bike out of gully (half carrying it) and I have flatted a battery on 2 different bikes a few times....and quite easily.

Looks like a Shorai may provide a little more peace of mind. Do you guys leave your stock batteries on a trickle charge when not in use? I've never done this but may well have to to ensire I don't get stuck somewhere.

I still think it's a stupid idea not to even offer a kickstarter as an optional extra.
