Reliability of 05 models and other issues...

Hello to all ,
Im new here (actually, im not...i had other nickname and left here in '02 when i decided go to 2S)
and i like to have some updates about Husabergs current status...

Questions are about FE450e
and FE550e (im specially inteerested in the FE 550e).

How are 05 models as for reability goes now that, AFAIK, the engines are made in Austria ?
In the past, they grenade easely...brand new bikes with
100KM grenaded !!!

How reliable is also the ES ?
How is the level of vibrations and well does the "counterbalanced" crankshaft works ?

How does they work in tight terrain and also in open fast (150-160kph) terrain ?

Suspensions and brakes ?

A final issue...i tried several times for several days to download the
'05 manual from HSB in Sweden but to no avail !?!...is it possible to a moderator to put it here so it will be more easy to download ?

TIA

re: ok

I'll see what I can do. It will take a little time(or a lot, depending on the size of the file).

If you want your old username back, just tell me what it is, and I'll set it back up for you.

thanks and welcome back!

thanks,

I have over 1500km on my '05 in 3 months and had zero, and I mean zero, problems. I know of 15+ other riders with '04/'05 models with much higher k's and the same experience. None have ad any issues that I know of.

"How is the level of vibrations and well does the "counterbalanced" crankshaft works ?"
Vibes about the same as a KTM525. Much less than a Vor, more than a DRZ. Definitely not a problem. I am doing ~1000km in 4 days next weekend and will know more then.

"How does they work in tight terrain and also in open fast (150-160kph) terrain ?"
In tight terrain it is excellent. The very low tip weight makes it feel like a far smaller machine and I have no trouble keeping up with WR250F's with guys of similar skill on board... With 1 smaller (14t) front sprocket I have hit 152kph and the bike wanted to go much faster still but I chickened out.

"Suspensions and brakes ?"
Freakin' awesome and freakin' awesome. Brakes are THE best I have ever ridden bar none.

Hope this helps. I sound biased but really I don't think I am.... :p

Re: re: ok

TIA Json,
I appreciate very much if you mannage to put here the manual...i had zero problems downloading files from here as opposite to HSB site !...that guys should also put some better pics of the bikes...i mannaged to found them in a importer...

As for old nickname, it was so long ago (2002) and my old notebook had so many crashs that i have no clue what it was so, nevermind...anyway current
nickname is related with my true name and old wasnt...

Re: Reability of 05 models and other issues...

Thanks Knopey for details
about new HSBs....they look
better now ! some more details
if you dont mind...

Can you tell me some examples of how many hours/Km have your
friends w/o problems ?
Its a surprise to me that it it vibrates same as a 525 ! thats good...does the HSB claimed advantages of the balancing system as for gyro effect goes
(im interested when you are at hight speed and brake hard before a tight curve and also when you gonne in the curve),
works like they say compared with other big bore 4S ?

When you gonne at 150kph, did
you hit roots/holes and did it behave well or shaked like 525 are "famous" for ?

TIA

PS:
FWIW, i love my 2S GG300 and wont sell it...if i buy new bike, i
will transform my GG300 to suppermotard with parts from current GG SM model (inc.black plastics) but with Acerbis SM front fender and also Acerbis Chrome/Black Cyclops headlight.
New bike will be for off-road and current bike for tarmac.

HI AJSB. Some of my friends have over 8000+ kilometres without issue. I don't know the exact numbers, some are undoubtedly much higher, but they have had '04 models since they came out and ride a LOT. Over 200k per week in some cases. I am confident there are no major inherent weaknesses in the model now :)

For the record I have only been on a gravel road or tar road when hitting 150kph. There are no trails around here that are suitable for those sorts of speeds  However I have found the handling to be superior to the '04 model KTM450's in my opinion. (I had my springs upgraded to suit my weight when I bought it.)

I can't comment on the '05 KTM's, they are supposedly much better than the '04 in the suspension...

nobody knows for sure yet how '05 is yet. we get them first in europe and they arrive about 10 days before the big 'john baks' national. after that one race they go in to hibernation for the winter. the real action starts in about 3 weeks time.

what i can say is that from what i hear the '04s were excellent after the initial european bound models had a kind of ignition failure. once this was sorted they were spot on.

the work done to get the bikes right has been phenominal!

regards

Taffy

Thanks for all the info...BTW,
reading the owners.doc , it seems
that '05 models use Titanium valves, is that true and in special for the FExxxe ?

TIA

According to the 05 parts manual, only the 450FC and 450FS-C have the titanium valves.

Only the MX and Supermotard 450 use titanium. FE's use stainless (thank god)

For the record I just had my valves checked and they needed adjusting for the first time. The bike has 1550km on it now and I use Valve Shield in 4 our of 5 tanks of fuel. That took as long as the DRZ to need adjusting so I'm not complaining

Re: Reability of 05 models and other issues...

I just bought a Husaberg 2005 FC550 and just finish breaking it in. The engine feels very solid and powerful. On a MX track I can pull ANY 450 from turn to turn 8O . I will let you know if any problems develop.

What's Valve Shield? Thanx

This is the same stuff (in principle):
http://www.flashlube.com.au

There are a few different makes and they all do the same thing more or less. Supposedly they reduce valve wear by adding some lubrication to the fuel. That's a very basic explanation (the best I can do). You use so little the cost per tank is minimal and it seems to help.

Around here it is available in car (auto) shops and most bike shops now as well.

This thread on Thumpertalk should give some background info about where I'm coming from:

Hurrah for steel valves !!!
The titanium ones makes me allways nervous...

...as for valve lubs, its funny that now thumpers also "need" "premix" ;)

BTW, here in Portugal i know of many people that do it in cars...in special
Diesel...they put some engine oil
mixed with the fuel.

i have been using motorex valve guard in my berg 10ml per 10 liters since brand new. The last 2 times i have gone to get my valves adjusted (first time was just after first 600kms and 2nd time was around 1500kms) they were fine and needed no adjustment. Not bad for a 2002 berg. Am taking it in to get checked within the next week or so. Will let you know how i go.

Please do that !

The new 05 Husabergs are soooo good that the only weak link in the system is the rider
