Rekluse impression

Just installed a Rekluse 3.0 in my 450......quick easy install (have mineral oil on hand for your Magura clutch) This is my second auto clutch, I had the more expensive Core EXP on my 390. This thing is magic in the woods, ya never have to worry about stalls in tough terrain, no arm pump.....it feels like you're cheating! $500 bucks well spent and no, I don't work for em'!
 
Nsrrider, what exactly it does? It is something like a sliper clutch? What's the benefits?
well, lots of youtube videos that can probably give you a better idea of what it is but, basically, it prevents the bike from stalling.....ever. So you can be on the knarliest uphill you can think of and only be concerned about hanging onto the bars. I'm almost 61 now and really appreciate anything that makes riding fast in the woods easier and is also a little easier on my body. Have bad tendonitis in my arms and not having to manage the clutch allows for generally less effort. Ever stuffed your bike into a tough corner and having the motor stall? You never worry about it....or doing a 180 direction change by doing a "cookie" in the dirt to turn around, except you get the clutch/throttle not quite right and you stall the motor (and embarrass yourself falling over)? The Rekluse makes little maneuvers easy.....its surprising how much easier it is to ride tough-technical trails when you never have to be concerned about stalling. One downside is that the bike can't be bump-started, but I don't find that a big if you got a reliable estart.

Absolutely love it! I have the one that is like a thick friction disc and super easy to install. Clutch feel and operation is exactly the same as oem, but it wont stall, climbing mountains with this is fun actually, around trees its extremely useful as you just slide it in and then bwaap away, basically it lets you concentrate on riding instead of fiddling. Best money spent ever imo.
 
My bike's got a rekluse as well. Seems that adjusting the idle setting for engagement can be tricky.

Not being able to bump start the bike is a bit crappy...

But having the pull the generator cover off to turn the engine over to TDC (for valve adjustments) is a real PITA.

Wish the rekluse had some manual overide that allows one to still use the rear tire to turn the engine when the bike is off.

fwiw Some models of the various autoclutches do have a locking mechanism to push start or turn the motor with the tire ...

You have the old berg? on those it wont work well. On the 70 degree it will though.
Mostly its because its a more refined idea, I bet this will go into the old ones too, but rekluse just says no idea.

I have actually been very curious about this subject. Isn't the "Auto-clutch" simply allowing slip from the clutch? If so wouldn't that be hell on the clutch? Maybe someone could clarify for me.
 
Yes, and not really. It only disengage/slip close to idling revs, so during most circumstances it is fully engaged. And when it is slipping you normally would work the clutch anyway. Ofcourse it depends on your recluse settings and drive style, but neither my friends nor I have seen any excess wear after 100+hours. On tarmac I can feel that the clutch is slipping sometimes, but I can't really blame the recluse for that.

i got an efm built for my 700 (08 650), more peak force than all the other clutches

plates fried in 15 min, not enough force to lock up the clutch till 3000rpm and no way to limit the max force, tried doubling the weight of the balls and re machining the ramps.. no go.

you need more force than the oem clutch because the coefficient of sliding friction is less than static and the clutch always slips before it grabs. Ive ridden many bikes with auto clutches and didn't like any of them .. personal preference.

the "new idea" thick friction disc is as TomTom wrote a much more refined idea and the 570 has a larger diameter basket so more opportunity to work.. the old engine has a clutch much the same size as a 125 2T

the main negative I found is that the positively connected feel at low RPM is just gone

I think I'd like one of these when I'm going to try driving in the woods with my 4 gear FC550, '01. I think stalling will be quite common.....:eek:

Indeed, my buddy has a FE650, just ported nothing special, and he got the extra strong package from rekluse and it tore it to pieces in 15 minutes. Given this I was a bit reluctant to try on the 570 but it works perfect, with the tuning I did too, only time you notice it is in the trails when it does what you want it to.

I picked up the KTM Powersports version Reckluse 3.0 for my 2013 TE250 after i get it installed i will repost... from all the reports and reviews i see online its great for woods riding looking froward to it :spin:
