on the recommendation of our resident race engine builder, i've been using delo 10-40 or 15-40 or something the last year. costco now only carries some kinda fancy 'reformulated' version for extra low diesel emissions.

what does that mean to me?

I believe that the discussion was had last year regarding the reformulated delo, and if i ma not mistaken, it means nothing to those of us that change the oil so frequently. I think that there was some discussion as to whether or not the new formula would affect the way the clutch hooks up...

But again, my mind is like a steel trap.... just one that is rusted open....

hmm. ok, i did see one of those, but since it was so old, and the newer oil only hit the shelf here in idaho in the last couple weeks, i didn't think it was the same issue. this stuff seems to be tied to the 2007 diesel engines and the new expensive ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel and stuff. i guess i'll just stop worrying and buy some and if my bike blows up i'll just buy another one, lol.

You may be right in that it has been reformulated again, Dale would know I am sure. I have not bought delo for some time, as I bought A LOT a while back and still have a about 10 gallons of the old stuff sitting on the shelf....

DELO 400 LE

Unfortunately DELO 400 "LE" does not have the EP package of old.
One must now purchase Standard DELO 400 in bulk (IE 55 Gallon Drum).

RE: DELO 400 LE

Dang! Oh Wait!

10 gallons of old school DELO 400- starting bid $50-gallon :p

That must be the new SM. I bought several gallons of the SL, it seems to be readily available around here, although I don't know long til we see the SM only.

Hello guys.
I have been reading alot about oil in this forum. I live in Norway, and here the Delo oil is not available.
We got Shell rotella, but i think it have a different formula than in US.

Have been i contact with Shell for tfe datasheet for their Rotella. it would have been nice if some of you have listed what should and should not be in the oil. An other good dieseloil we got here is Texaco URSA. Mybe URSA also is a good choise??

Hi lucky,
Texaco Europe is most often a Chevron product.

Thanks for reply. I will try the URSA oil the next change. I am going to find the datasheet for the URSA oil, and post it here on the forum.

I am perplexed about folks using diesel oil for motorcylcles. Diesels are low revving cooler running vehicles, aside from the clutches working OK, an oil formulated for a diesel seems like a far reach comparing it to a hot running high revving motorcyle. In 1981 I took the advice of a friend and used Castrol GTX for high revving motors it said on the can, and used it in my Harley in lieu of the 60w Harley Oil I was running, and took my bike on the Redwood run from Stockton, CA to Eureka, CA and back, and it foamed up like A&W root beer, and I lost my rod bearings on the way home. Just my 2 cents.

Here are some lab comparisons of most major motorcycle oils:

so, you're blaming a failure on one of the most unreliable motorcycles ever built (except maybe a kx250f) on the oil? hmmmmmmmmm

Castrol GTX has minimum shear strength and a poor EP package. Such was likely the worst oil you could have put in your motorcycle.

Castrol did have a really cool television commercial. No doubt they sold a lot of oil as a result.

Good oil rarely needs "Bling" marketing.

DELO exceeds all gasoline engine requirements and is known as a dual oil.

Your link is an Amsoil website featuring the Tuttles. No further explanation should be required. :)
