STOKE ON TRENT
Hello to everyone ,i have posted a couple of problems on here the last couple of weeks and found the comunity fantastic allways willing to help and give advice , soi have had a problem setting the stator (sorted with a strobe ) but over the last coupke of weeks had a real trouble starting. Ihave cleaned the carb but noticed that when i removed the jets one snapped (oh no ) so managed to get a replacement from a dealer in the uk and managed to get it on sataday, fitted the carb and set the mixture up as i thought was correct , i noticed that the needle has grooves machined in it, i put the clip on the top groove and attempted to start it it started very easy but after a couple of minites i noticed the exhaust header pipes glowing red hot, so i let it cool down and droppes it down two notches, i had it running and it seemed ok , does this movement of the clip make that much diffrence ? any info would be great .

Oh yes Billy, as you've just found it does make a massive difference, as you raise the clip you push the needle into the atomiser leaning everthing off giving you the glowing/red hot headers.
Check the owners docs for the hot set up on Dellortos............. worked a treated on mine.

You want to avoid letting them sit at idle for much longer than a minute. They will get hot fast. I wouldnt think the needle would have that affect at idle.

RE: Re: RED HOT !!!!!!!

i would say bthat you may have misunderstood your strobe readings. basically the white line needs to be about 1-2mm left of the centre of the viewing hole.

sorry to hijack this one, but would the same be the go for the FCR models, if running hot, would 1, or 2 clips richer help? (i am at sea level basically + 300mts - pretty flat Island).

cheers!

Thanks, that confused me more, is the lean jetting not the cause and the overheat the symptom?
